Having used Ubuntu and not really liking the layout etc... thought I would try Kubuntu (KDE version of Ubuntu) ,I have to say it looks 10x better IMHO,I think Linux Mint,Kubuntu are my top 2,Open Suse 11.1 is not bad but I had a few weird issues with that.

Kubuntu installed with no issues, only thing I had to do was install a few important things like Firefox and enter my security key for wireless and I was off and running.

Hehe well Ubuntu gnome looks crap IMHO,I think its more for noobs, anyway I installed the latest 4.3 KDE package on Kubuntu and its even better now,I like the way KDE keeps improving and looking better.

End of the day I realize its personal preference thing but here is to KDE :).

I believe the 9.10 Kubuntu official version with KDE 4.3 is due in Oct for release.

Yep I prefer KDE to Gnome too :p

Kubuntu has always been my 2nd favourite Linux Distro behind Open Suse

Open Suse I tried but as I said had a few weird quirks like it not remembering res setting for my desktop, annoying I had to keep resetting it to 1920x1080 after each reboot.

I just think KDE looks a bit childish, a bit like a it was designed for those with special needs in mind. Gnome feels more professional, more aimed at people who want to do something useful rather than just having a lot of fluff on their desktop :p

Gnome has evolved a lot more over the years, KDE looks pretty much how it did when they released KDE2
Ubuntu does Gnome no justice :)
They both have there good and bad points though but to me Gnome > KDE
And fluxbox > all. when i'm not needing a complete gui

I see where you're coming from there... ;)

fluxbox > all. when i'm not needing a complete gui

Fluxbox has the laziest devs. Try Openbox - unlike Flux, it's been updated in the last two years (other than changing the default theme, Flux's last update was in 07)

EDIT: Actually - what do you mean "not need a complete gui"? Flux is complete...

Fluxbox is a simple desktop manager, it has no file manager etc ;)
Can't say ive tried Openbox in a long time, guess i've just got use to using flux

Other than a few polished icons, the difference's between KDE2 and 4 are pretty minimal at best.

Never liked KDE, it looks like vista with a mixture of mac blue thrown in. Never liked the default icons either

For Ubuntu i definitely prefer KDE, but if it's done well Gnome is good too. Like in Mint.

Have to agree, gnome is quite nice if you get the right icons and get rid of the default GDM. I use gnome-colors for icons and arc-colors for the GDM on ubuntu, which is the same as Mint uses.

I used to use KDE back in the KDE 1-3 days, but now much prefer Gnome. It's a bit too bling now. Gnome seems classier and more sophisticated, and the usability is actually quite decent.
