Are you looking to buy a new graphics card?

Do they normally appear around the same time as the "regular" cards, or are we likely to have to wait?

It depends. If the 5850/70 uses the same reference PCB as the 4850/70, then the aftermarket coolers (in theory) that were designed for that will fit the newer GPUs.

However, I believe it will be a complete re-design. Therefore aftermarket coolers will be late to the party, with decent coolers coming from reputable companies around 2-3 months after release.

i'm waiting on building 2 new gaming rigs for me and the wife, so definatly holding out till the spec is released and some reviews start poping up on sites before i decide whether to get the new cards or pick up some 4890's for cheap to last untill DX11 shows signs of going somwhere and more games get released.

Im already using a 8800gts 320mb to run a dell 24" moniter. The performance is really bad at 1920x1200 so I may aswell wait for the 5850's to turn up. 2 weeks wont harm. Although I am really tempted to get a 4890 as they seem cheap enough right now, cant really see them getting any cheaper than what they are really.

I sold my 8800GTS a month back with the intention of buying a 4890 and have been using an old 6600GT in the meantime. I'll probably go for a 5850 instead now.

(bump...)

Do we know what's going to be included in the new 58xx range, or is it probable speculation? I keep reading about the 5850 and 5070. Will these be the first cards in the range? If so, will the 5890 follow? How does it work? :)

See I need a PC for university which starts Sept 28th. These DX11 cards probably wont be available to buy til say October? I mean sure theyre being revealed Sept 10th but it will be a while before we can get our hands on em. Im gonna buy a GTX 260 with a game that I want for £115. Now, the game costs £25. So Im gettin the card for £90.

Is the price of a GTX 260 gonna drop down to lower than £90 come October?

260 price will probably go up, as they supposedly re-releasing them, but with Dx10.1 added.

Also supposed to be changing them into GT300 series naming cards as well, so they'll have 2x sets of them, the Dx11 GT300's, and the renamed and Dx10.1 added GT200 260/280's, so be careful if buying a Dx11 GT300, as you may be buying a GTX 260/280 thats been renamed instead. :p

It's been confirmed through driver device IDs now so it seems a pretty solid 'rumour'.

Also, how do you go about getting a thread stickied? A fair few people agree that it should be. :D

i'm running x2 24" panels off an 8800GT, both at 1920x1200, and performance is starting to sag. definitely hopping on the 58xx series.
