So here's the summary of my problem.
I have been saving to buy/build an amazing gaming pc but for an unspecified reason I have decided to order a new PS3 Slim (released tomorrow).

My current (and much loved) Dell 2.1 speakers plug into my PC using the 3.5mm reciever (this is probably the wrong term) on the back. The PS3 doesnt have one of these, however it does have an optical reciever.

I need an adapter that changes the male 3.5mm jack into a male optical cable. Does this exist and where can I procure one?

Thanks for reading,
Fledge.

Without sounding really lazy (I have tried looking), would I be able to hook up the Logitech X-540 5.1's to a PS3?

Damn, well, thanks a lot for all your help and clarification :)
I'm off to start a new thread regarding PS3 speakers.

Its was just an example for him I've no idea what's a good buy tbh. I did notice the cheaper one, didn't seem worth changing the link. But thanks.

The kind of adaptor you need is stereo phono sockets to 3.5mm jack socket. I didn't find one off the shelf so I build one out of a composite to scart adaptor hot gluing the 3.5mm jack socket into area where the scart was removed.

Plug the Sony composite cable into the adaptor. Then you just need to set the Sound to AV scart, Video to HDMI in the PS3 options.
