AMD Pii 955 @4.0 vs Intel core i7 [email protected]

AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.4Ghz @ 1.325v stable + Sapphire HD 4890 Vapor-X 2GB 40fps @ 1900x1200 resolution in Crysis Benchmark.

AMD is no good for Gaming is it. :(

AMD is awesome at gaming and still a good purchase. However I would only put s775 lower than Phenom 2 on the basis that it is a dead socket. Otherwise it's an even cheaper solution, even better some times (e0 steppings and such)

are you serious??
Not in the slightest, was waiting for a comment to be made just like that to get my point over to the Intel Reps LOL :D

I was just being as sarcastic as possible because people were fobbing off AMD setups when they dont even realise you don't even need to overclock at silly 4GHz + to have an awesome setup. :)

Stock clocks are awesome for gaming on AMD, no fannying about overclocking needed, mine will do 3.8GHz I havent tried higher.

Phenom 2 are not very good overclockers contrary to what many say.

same goes for i7? i seen most 3.4-3.6ghz

also its pot luck with ocing, he may get a good 955 clocker.

most phenom 2 955 cant get past 3.8

every 920 i have seen will do 3.8
most do 4Ghz no problem

phenoms are fine for gaming unles you want SLI

i7 is ideal allrounder

good for gaming and amazing at multitasking/numbercrunching

i5 will be closer matched to the PII's in performance
and should make the "I want a gaming PC" market very interesting

Yep, s775 may be an aging socket, but it can certainly still hold its own, the EO stepping chips are great clockers.

All Intel have to do is sell P55 chipset motherboards as cheap as AM2 motherboards (£45 thanks) that are compatable with AM3 CPU's like the X4 955 BE.

Also Intel need to be ready to drop the price when AMD drop the price of their CPU's because they will when P55 is launched you watch lol.

why? are u includeing crossfire? if so how that a issue, im running crossfire fine..

also people are forgetting that with phenom II's it isn't just about the cpu clock speed, u need to up the CPU-NB to get the full benefit of the oc

example something like this a phenom II running at 3.6ghz/ 2.8ghz nb can best a phenom II 3.8ghz/2ghz nb..

OMG my sockets dead!! It was fine last time I looked!

lol

can't help but think that i7 is a more "complete" package if budget is no issue of course.

but as said wait a bit longer for the i5 and 1156 mobos that should bring more options to the table.

but i5 dnt hav any future, lyk if i stick wid 1366 socket,in future i can upgrade to i9 :) ,
nw i asked the same question earlier,is AMD goin to release its 6 cores CPU on same AM3 socket or nt? lyk intel
and m nt goin to build my sytem till oct :d

The same can be said of i7 with it's equivalent Uncore frequency.

I guess what he means is it's not the best long term investment if you're building from scratch.

i said unless you want SLI as there is currently no am3 board that does SLI and Xfire

crossfire was not mentioned - i said i7 was the way to go if you wanted an SLI platform

thanks for the info about overclocking phenoms, im glad i know that stuff now

Thats one of the reasons why ive decided on i7, ive ran sli in the past on nf4 and nf680i, never tried a crossfire setup, but its nice that i7 gives you the option of both, im looking at getting another 280 gtx to give sli a run on i7, seeing as theese cards can be had at a good price now.

Do you honestly believe that Intel will just launch one load of chips on that socket? Give them another year and they will release more, as they did with S775.

And no offense, but please try to write in English. Reading that literally made my head hurt. To start with, it's spelt "like".

i get what u mean now. the way u said it sounded like Phenom setup can't have sli.

but u could get a am2+ board + am3 cpu if u really wanted sli
