What is currently the 'best' company to go with if cable isn't available in the area?

I would probably need a phoneline and TV package but not essential.

Also, is there any way I can find out how far a property is from an exchange?

Be/O2 probably provide the best service in terms of performance and value. Their LLU services aren't available everywhere.

If you want all three services as part of a package Sky's Unlimited broadband is decent. Again Sky's LLU service isn't available everywhere.

Kitz will provide a couple of figures for distance (straight line and by road), these won't necessarily equate to your line length or reflect the line quality. Kitz and SamKnows will both give you an outline of what services are available.

Thanks for that. According to the site there is an exchange 600 metres away. That's pretty good for getting a good service isn't it? Image below suggest it would be a pretty low speed connection;

Market 1 suggests BT wholesale are the only operator and there are no LLU services available.

Indeed. Does that mean that only crappy connections are available then?

Put the post code in to VM and it says 'You're not in a fibre optic area, but can still get our brilliant broadband down your phone line.' So which is correct?

Thanks

And remember that just because you live close to the exchange that does not automatically mean you have a good/short line. It could well be routed half way round the town :p

I've just moved into a new place. its an older house and i can't see a line anywhere so looks like I'll need the lot

i need everything to be cheap as possible

BT cheapest is £26.90 for a line and Broadband (only up to 10GB per month usage which is pretty crap for anyone who uses the net a little I think). the line connection fee is free until the end of September (normally £122.50)

Sky was too expensive as you have to get sky TV which i don't need

only other one I've looked at is Virgin because they do a phone line. now they say it'll be £29 per month for the phone and Broadband (up to 40GB per month download limit) and a one off connection fee of £30. i told her there was no line in the place at all (no box on the wall) but she says this is fine, Virgin sort this out.

does that all sound right for not having a line

whats the process when you have absolutely nothing line wise?
