Hi,

Putting together my first build. i7 920, Asus P6t, ect. Not a huge game player so just want the best bang for £100.

I am planning on getting a Dell 2209WA Monitor with the following specs:

Panel Size:
22"
Aspect Ratio
Widescreen
Panel Type:
e-IPS - In Panel Switching
Optimal Resolution:
1680 X 1050 at 60 Hz
Contrast Ratio:
Dynamic Contrast Ratio 3000:1 (typical)
Brightness:
300 cd/m2 (typical)
Response Time:
6 ms (typical)
Viewing Angle
178° / 178° (typical)
Color Support:
16.7 million colors
Pixel Pitch:
0.282 mm
Display Type
Thin film transistor (TFT) active matrix liquid crystal display (LCD)
Device Type
Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

I was looking at a Radeon HD 4770 for less than £60 or a HD 4870 1GB for about £110

???

atm the 48701gb looks good, but the next wave of cards are just around the corner so try and hang on

hmmm well from what iv seen the 5000 series are gonna be well over 100 even for lower end stuff since it brand spanking new. best just to go for a 4870 for now rly.

New cards will force the price of the old ones down so it really is best to wait.

I doubt you will see much movement on price on the cards like the 4870 1G for a while although the 4890 may shift down a notch. Gamer or not the 4870 1G does offer plenty of power for games on the screen you are buying and would be my "purely graphics" reconmendation. However, your clearly building a fast PC (i7) and you must be planning to use that CPU power for something, if its not just games you are building for and maybe video encoding etc you may find that an Nvidia 260 with Cuda support compliments your CPU and needs better.

Any recommendations?QUOTE]

My main recommendation in general would be less fanboys.

It's hard to recommend an nvidia card for that bracket when a 4890 can be had for less than £130.

The only thing i'd consider getting an nvida for at that price is because you get batman with some of the 260's and i'm looking forward to it coming out.

I ran my HIS 4870 1GB for the first time last night on some games and benchmarks. All I can say is, unbelievably good, not even a hint of stutter, smooth like butter! Go buy it.

Bought a 4870 1GB

Thanks everyone!

I am building my PC over the next 2 weeks so I went for the 4870 1GB.

Thanks for all the help!
