Best way to clean out a PS3?

My PS3's fan has started getting noticeably loud recently, following a couple of months spent with it in a very dusty shared house. What's the best way to "undust" a PS3 without taking it apart? I assume that if you use a tin of compressed air that will only serve to blow dust further in? Is it safe to hoover? this seems to be the most sensible way, but I'm worried about dislodging the fan's bearings...

It's still in warranty, so I don't want to do anything drastic with it, but it's also really beginning to bug me, particularly while watching blu-rays when it's nice to have a quiet room! Doesn't bother me when gaming so much.

Hoover !

I use the brushy attachment  Don't know the correct term :p on my xbox without problem, also used this for my keyboard too. The flat oblong connecter also works well on fan grilles/mesh sections.

ANy smaller areas or if you need more power try taping a straw to the smallest attachment you have for your hoover, make sure its sealed and use that :)

Hoover is best... used compressed air on mine though, still seemed loud so I took it apart completely last week and hoovered it inside.

Don't use a vacuum cleaner, for the same reason you wouldn't stick one inside your PC: Static. Personally, I use compressed air to blow the dust out, and have the hoover in the air to suck it up, but I don't stick the hoover near the PS3. I don't know if static actually is a problem, but I've read a couple of horror stories so I'm not going to try it.

Would hoovering through a jumper or something be safer? Might get rid of the static, and would certainly lessen the power coming through it as well...

Nope, if anything it will make it a lot worse.

Just leave it plugged in when hoovering so it's grounded, although personally I just use compressed air.

LOL, why would they implement it then? I would do the Sony fan test thing first and see if it helps.

I assume that it's there for use in production or when the machine is RMAd. Whacking the fans up to full speed doesn't strike me as wise; if one burns out then your screwed.

My Hoover quite often sucks out my PC insides :p

You of course wouldn't use the brush attachment inside yer PC, just use the long flat oblong sucker thing, or as above for tighter sections tape up a straw to the end of your attachment. I've used a hoover in my PC for a good while now and never had any problems.

What horror stories? People breaking components? kocking bits off the motherboard? snapping connectors?

Dont be cack handed Be careful seeeeemples :)

No doubt there will be posts out there where people have done exactly that or used the brush part in their PC, well tbh they probably deserve it lol.
