Hi,

I was thinking of buying an LG 50PS3000 plasma TV to use as my PC monitor. Can you guys tell me what the image quality will be and will it suffer from image burn if I leave it on the desktop. Will games be ok on it too? And would it be generally suitable as a pc monitor?

Thanks

Not at the distance of deask > seat for daily use.

REmemebr it will have a limited resolution and much larger pixels compared to a standard monitor. You will more than likely be able to make out every individual pixel and the lines between them. Modern plasma if burned/ran in correctly dont really suffer from image burn.

How far away were you thinking of sitting.

I have a samsung 40" LCD I use as a monitor at the moment. I'm short-sighted so I sit about a foot away LOL. I was just wondering if there would be any issues using a plasma as a monitor and would text be as sharp and clear as my 1080p samsung LCD.

For use a 24/7 monitor, no way, it will be a nightmare on the eyes. For use for a secondary gaming monitor sat back form the screen, yes way.

Im shortsighted too, my monitor is normall 1-2ft away and even @ 22" I never really had any issues.

However I have a shuttel setup in front room which lives behind the TV which is a 42" plasma. Movies and stuff are fine, for desktop and text its horrid and thats sitting a fair bit further away than 1-2ft.

Keep in mind the most your gonna get res wise will be 1920x1080 take this into acount also a 24" monitor will have teh same res. Now for that to happen, think about the size of teh pixels your gonna have 1ft in front of you, Not only will you be able to make out the pixels, you'll be able to easily see the seperators behind them

Why not as a 24/7 monitor?

Come on it's not rocket science... not only are they relatively low refresh rates, a la CRT, but the text and font clarity on them will never be anywhere near as sharp as a monitor. I have a 50" Panasonic plasma and it would be a nightmare for 24/7 monitor use, your eyes would die.

When I say I'm short-sighted, I mean very short-sighted. My eyesight is worse than 6 60. I use a monocular to read text on the 40" LCD I currently use as a monitor.

Maybe you should consider some specialist equipment to help with that sort of thing that might make it more comfortable for you? Incidentally you can enlarge the text in the browser by using view -> zoom -> zoom in (you probably already know that though!)

Plasma and static display, is bad for the screen but perhaps a large LCD would benefit in your case?

In reflection, I am not sure you will pick up on the panel issues but LCD will beat plasma for static images either way! Going large in plasma is cheaper than LCD in general!

I heard that in win 7 you can zoom the whole screen:) Do you know how far it zooms before text looks blurred?

I just tried on win7 (but i think its just IE8 that gives that, not win 7) and i found, custom this page at 1500% and it was clear if needing scrolling, but it really does seem massive at custom and i guess loads more possible, are you on IE8?

Yeah I have IE8 with Vista,To zoom the screen in win 7 you hold the windows key and press + or -. not sure if you have to load magnifier though

Using a plasma TV as a monitor will cause screen burn.

It would be fine if you had the desktop on for 5 mins then watched a film, but leaving the desktop on for an hour would have some image retention, although probably just temporarily.
