I'm off to New York soon, just for 3 nights.

Can anyone recommend somewhere? I'd like something in a good location. I don't want a hostel but also a compromise between quality and price would be fine.. so somewhere 'average'?

Thanks

Look up the Red Roof Inn Manhatten - couple of blocks from the ESB.

Had all been re-furb'd just before we went in Nov 2007. Rooms were fine, all clean and tidy with a decent shower. Just had to be early down to breakfast as the room wasn't very big - means the best pick of the doughnuts :D

Red Roof Inn looks like it would have been suitable but unfortunately not available.

i recently stayd at rhe salisbury on west 57th street. not the best hotel (definitely not bad), but cheap and excellent location. also, have stayed at the doubletree on lexington - also good location.

Try sofitel, great hotel and located two blocks from time square. Also join the loyalty card scheme for late check out etc. If you stay here don't pay for breakfast but instead go to the flame diner only couple of doors down

I stayed at the Pod 'hotel' and it was really good :)
Great location and cheap enough.

£160/night cheapest I can find - bit more than I wanted to spend.

Salisbury looks fine but again booked up unfortunately.

Doubletree looks lovely, but a bit pricey :D

Did you try their other hotels? My favorite cheap hotel recommendations in NY. http://www.applecorehotels.com/

Yeah I tried their other hotels, prices are quite high - £170+/night

Well I suppose it's a question of when you're going, I've stayed in their hotels for less than £60/night before (that was this year).

New York isn't cheap if you want a hotel in Manhattan unfortunately.

Go on 12th September.

Yeah certainly got more expensive since I was last there, 7 years ago.

i stayed in the millenium hilton on 17th floor which gave good views, really nice room with 42" plasma tv and all mod cons. It over looks the freedom tower construction zone so you will probably get discounts due to the fact your looking onto a building site, was rated 67# of 422# hotels in NYC

Dude

I was expecting about half that for a cheapish but ok place

If you want anything under £100/night for next weekend you are going to be looking at less than perfect hotels unfortunately.

Hotel 17 is cheap, you can get that for £300. Then for something a bit better theres Hotel 41, which will be £500 for the 3 nights.

Just look on somewhere like Hotels.com and see what you can get. Hotels.com have 10% off with budget79.

if you've been to nyc before and stayed in manhattan i'd recommend spending some time in brooklyn (brooklyn heights/williamsburg) - lots of stuff to do round there.

I stayed at the New Yorker / Ramada just opposite Madison Square Garden about 7 years ago.

Oooo, i stayed there over christmas last year! Awesome hotel, mainly for having nice aircon and being well placed in the city so as to be near enough to everything but at the same time not too close to anything bad :D (and the sign could be seen for miles)

Definitely recommend it to anyone!
