Hey guys,

I've been trying to sell a phone on eBay and this morning a buyer bought it, however they've paid via PayPal eCheque, they have no feedback and they signed up to eBay yesterday. They do though have a verified PayPal, but unverified addres, plus at the moment I am not Not Eligible for Seller Protection, any thoughts on the matter?

Thanks any more thoughts? What actually can they do to mess up the transaction, I can always wait till it clears then I'm done right?

E cheque usually means the funds have had to come from somewhere else.

I remember paying for something and it came up as e-cheque and i dint have a clue what it meant. Then i remembered i didnt have any funds in paypal

But with the low feedback etc. Alarm bells are ringing!

EDIT - They could do a charge back scam!

A PayPal eCheque is sent when the funds are drawn from a bank account and so takes longer to be processed than a normal payment funded by PayPal account balance or a credit/debit card.

This has happened to me a couple of times without me realising.

Basically i had changed bank accounts and although i had changed my paypal details the actual accounts had not been verified so an echeque was sent instead of instant withdrawal.

I dont think e-cheques are the real concern but more what the sellers history is, then again its the same old story of do we trust someone who has low/no feedback?

this seller could easily be entirely trustworthy but has only just got round to using the bay before so hasnt had the chance to build up any rep.

They can do a charge back! Even if I send it with Royal Mail Special and have proof of sending it?

The hoops of fire you will have to jump through to prove that you sent it are stupied, another reason why ebay is failing. If I were you I would avoid like the Plague !

I can show you TWO emails of people requesting to buy my phone which is listed on an auction site now

One of offering £190 the other is offering £450

Phone is worth around £140

You can tell they are scam emails. Because the way they are worded.

Both state they can pay via pay pal.

If the address on pay pal is verified and you send via royal mail you could still fall victim to the pay pal scam.

The main charge scam is the re-con address scam. The address probably is registered and verified. But they don't live there, they wait and wait for parcels then approach the postman. Have a read about, it's on the net :(

****EDIT****

SORRY!!! Its early for me "Un-verified" address!!! Thats because they have brought anything YET! you will 95% get scammed!

THanks guys,

So what can I honestly do, reject the person's echeque and give a second offer to the person who came before (12 feedback but seems to have bought quite a few shoes around £30 in the last few weeks)? I've paid so much in fees for listing because of these scammers!

Bank transfer any safer, they're claiming it's their first time so i suggested bank transfer. They can't charge back that can they?

bt I safer.

Urm not really no. If you pay someone with a normal cheque they have your sort code, name, account number, and your bank address. So its no different.

Bank transfer would be the way to go. BUT YOUR PROBLEM IS!!! The unverified address mate :( Thats how scams work. He will say they haven't received it and claim. He might not even live there :)

BTW i added you on msn :) Just to talk about it :)

I thought the seller protection protected the sellers  Anyway, I would avoid paypal payment and ask for bank transfer/cash as these are not reversable. Otherwise (relist, for free) to someone with feedback.

This. Christ, so many paranoid people these days. More and more I see people complaining on here how they cant buy anything because of no feedback, yet how can they get feedback if everyone decides it must be a scam.

How about contacting the buyer and communicating rather than "omg to ocuk" to get the same generic answers.

I had an e-chq once a few years ago, I contacted the buyer, explained I will only post the item once the chq clears (incase the buyer didn't have the funds when it does clear) and posted once I received the money.

Not so hard now is it?

If my mother joined paypal, I bet 100% she would send an echeque as she knows what a cheque is. It could be something like that.

Claim off who? Ebay can't reverse a bt.
