Thats the first thing i said. but he cant because he sliped with a srewdriver and went thought it:o

epic fail! :D

Theres no point in getting an x48 motherboard anymore as there only real advantage ie crossfire @ full 16x is now avaible on certain p45 motherboards which are cheaper, newer, & clock slighty better.

With I5 around the courner I espect there will be a surge in second hand high end s775 mobos but if he wants new.

he could go for:

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L (£84.99)

Asus P5Q Pro Turbo (£89.99) (1 model up from what he as & is the newer turbo version)

Or if he can find one a GA-EP45T-UD3P

p45 is 8x

not the newer ones :p

GA-EP45T-UD3P

5: 2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 graphics interface with ATI CrossFireX support for ultimate graphics performance

Think it was an intel based restriction to sell more x48 chipsets now they stoped making them there letting the motherboard manufactors do it on p45's to clear the p45 stock ;)

Thats not right? your making that up! :p

Most Intel® P45 Express Chipset board have two PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots but thats only the form factor (i.e a 16x PCI-E card can still fit) . . . the second slot will run at PCI-E 2.0 x8

I think that on p45, both slots will run at x8 with dual ati cards, the only dual x16 intel boards are the x58 chipsets, or if your wanting sli dual x16, you need an nforce 6/780i, 790i.
