Advice required.

Hi,

I owned that motherboard for a year, and before I upgraded to an I7, I found it to be the most stable and user friendly board I have owned over 5 years. Yes as stated before you need dual channel DDR2 RAM, DDR3 don't fit.

So basically, the phenom 995 is on par with the core 2 quad the 9950.

So therefore the phenom 995 is better than the 9450.

Any suggestion on the motherboard and ram for the 995.

Thanks for the info vonscar.

Not at all Drake.

Doe's the motherboard you suggest support ddr3 as looking at the specs it doesn't mention and why did you suggest the motherboard ?

I'm not sure what the performance difference will be between the 750gb wd green caviar and the wd 650gb caviar.
WD's model codes don't tell numbers directly buth 750GB models has been using 3x250GB platter config and 640 2x333GB with shortstroking meaning (333/250-1)x100 % higher STR.

Second number is 5, not 9.
And with gaming as the most important "time critical" application no:

(difference between Q9450 and Q9550 at stock speeds is few percents)

Here's a spec based on the phenom :

I'm not sure if the motherboard and 6gb ddr3 is an overkill, especially with it being ocuk value ram sounds dodgy :D and hikes the price up compared to drakes spec.

Any comments ?

the motherboard i suggested is ddr2.

The reason why is because there is no difference at all if you go ddr3 or ddr2, except that you just pay more. The only improvement you might see is in benchmarks by a tiny bit.

phenoms don't scale well with ddr3, so it's just not worth it

and also that motherboard is one of the best overclockers :)

for cooler i highly recommend coolermaster geminii s if you can find it, it's about 20 pounds. Or IFX-14 if you want something higher class
