Lights off at petrol stations?

The thing you have to remember, is the people working in these places are doing so for minimum wage and probably dont care less. The rules have to be all encompassing and you cant let the staff use any discrimination or they're bound to **** up. The rules might seem a bit daft sometimes, but its not hard to follow them - the problem only problem that I can see here is the way they were communicated

Oh i fully understand that and good on them for doing as they should, i think our system for filling up should be changed anyways, pay at pump with bigger limit or prepay.

Now that is pretty obvious if you think about it. It would be almost impossible to see if you're holding the nozzle by the handle or the trigger, if they press the button and you're squeezing the trigger then there's going to be a lot of petrol all over the place (and you). I'm sure you're not stupid enough to do that, but people are and they don't know you. Why would you not just put it in the car?

Aha, fair enough then :) I just assumed that nobody would be that retarded but thats obviously just me being a muppet then. There wasn't a reason for me doing it, it was just something I got in to a habit of doing and I was never called out on it for about 3 years.

Prepay's pretty common in other countries isnt it?

Problem is, people dont like change - in an environment where people need to be in and out as quickly as possible, change like that would slow things down a lot

Worked really really well in the States, its a good system, you need to go in to pay so why not to it before you fill up instead of after.

I'm definitley going to miss the South African petrol stations when I get home. Every station has an army of pump attendants that not only fill your car up for you, but will wash your windscreen, check your tires and even top up your oil/washer fluid should you want them to. All without having to step out of your car.

Just try not to get car jacked on the way out.

I don't know what she'd do if I had an E60 and I'd programmed the follow me home lights to stay on for 3 minutes, would I have had to sit and reprogram the iDrive to get fuel :D

should have just said that to her, "i can't turn them off as they stay on for 3 minutes after i switch off the engine."

First time i've heard anything like that before though.

she was jealous.
jealous of your youthful looks
jealous of your expensive looking car
jealous of how much better than her you are

hence she just made things difficult for you for the lols

because i like to brimm the tank and never know how much is left in the tank ?

Obviously you can take a guess, but i could still be £5 or so out, meaning the needed annoyingly doesnt go right to the top when you start back up.

We have retarded rules at work, doesnt mean I follow them though.

Go you

Not debating that the rule is quite clearly daft. However you can't blame the cashier for following policy for her own protection just in case Mr. Fox had 'done one' can you.

Is it even a real policy or has she just decided to make up her own rules for the lolz!?

i'm going with this theory

Dumb blonde sees young lad in bmw, fox does look like he's about 12 ;) :D so she thought he was the type to not pay, so made up an excuse when confronted.

tbh fox, you should have smacked her with your keyboard. I carry one at all times for just such ocassions ;)

Not weird, but was a funny one I was filling up and the woman across form me was about to start filling up but her pump still had the money on from the previous fill up, as they do in some petrol stations.

The woman was trying to cancel out what money the pump already had on the display by pulling the lever without the pump being in the car. Then comes an announcement from the tannoy "Please put the pump into the car before we authorize the pump". She didn't, then the same message cam again and she didn't.

She then started to shout all sorts of language at the shop assistant across the forecourt but the shop assistant did not hear so the same message came for a third time, this really made the woman mad and she went into the shop and started going crazy.

I told her to calm down, get a grip and then paid for my fuel and left. The cheek that she had because she didn't have a clue what to do just baffled me

Other week my GF payed at pump with her card, She put her pin in 1st then it said approved please remove card and fuel

but it said max £60 and she only had like 20 quid in her bank and shes not allowed an overdraft

what would have happend?
I would like to present you with the 'Dunce of the Week' award.

1) There's is no such construction in English as would have/could have/might of/<modal verb here> of

2) How can you have escaped the enormous media coverage of bank charges in the last couple of years? Do you live under a sound-proofed rock?

exactly

1 of 2 things happen

1) the bank doesnt authorise the £60 and it says "authorisation failed" and doesnt turn on the pump

or

2) it does authorise it, but the bank charge you £35 (or more in some cases) and then charge you interest @ whatever % per day till the account is back into the authorised overdraf / into the black.

That's an utterly bizarre rule

It would partly make sense if it was in the deep of winter... I would think a lot of petrol stations have people run their battery flat in the time it takes to fill up and pay.

Nothing because your lights would have been off.

Follow me home only works if you flash the lights after your keys are out. Otherwise, nothing happens and the lights remain off. :p
