Rubbish Blu-rays

24p, btw, is not a garantee for smooth playback. it never has been.

iro Planet Earth as mentioned specifically it did solved the 2:3 pull-down judder on the HD-DVD versions.

24p mode should guarantee smooth playback if the judder is as a result of 2:3 pull-down in the NTSC 48hz to PAL 50hz or 60hz conversion. If the judder is still there there is a problem with the source or display. Either the implementation is shoddy or the set-up is incorrect. Both source and display (TV or PJ) need to be able to cope with 24p and sometimes the TV needs a special mode enabled in order for it to work, e.g. advanced mode on Pioneer's Cinema mode.

I got an American import region free of Sin city uncut, the case is so much slimmer why cant we have these size cases in the uk? I much prefer them.

yep. sometimes, there's less judder with 24hz switched off lol

i purchased Dirty Dancing for my partner some time ago and when she switched it on to watch she turned it off again within 20mins.

not cos the film was bad :D but the quality of the picture was terible. colours were flat and it looked like an upscaled dvd rip off a torrent site.

went back and traded it in for 3:10 to Yuma

I notice Leon is out on BR next week, and it's the full directors cut.

Really hope it's not a naff transfer.
Not meant to be that hot according to the AVForums review :(

'However, if you already own the disc on DVD, then the decision whether to upgrade is not as clear cut as it might have been. The AV on this disc is solid without being spectacular, and the advantages over upscaling DVD are not as massive as you might expect.'

Been waiting years for this release but I'll probably just get the DVD version now.

In all fairness the IMAX sections of the Dark Knight are jawdropping, but the rest of the disc isn't as good as it could have been, still looks great but not up there with the top discs. In my opinion of course.

Would have to say 30 days of night is up there for me.

Gladiator is supposedly awful.

On the flip side, Braveheart is meant to be amazing :o

I use websites to look up the films if i'm buying older catalogue titles.

mm I don't have it on DVD, just an old vhs which I have no way to play back now lol, so might give the BR a go.

Full Metal Jacket is an atrocious transfer. An already noisy (visually) film with a noise layer over the top.

What?

I found it decent enough. I was just happy enough to have a higher quality copy of another Kubrick classic.

While we're on Kubrick I also found 2001 : Space Oddysey and The Shining incredible. Was an absoloute joy watching the Shining in 1080 :D

As well as being a surprisingly good film, I was also amazed to watch the extras to find out it was shot almost entirely in a large cow shed in New Zealand.
Its a very well shot film.

Best PQ = excluding animated films would be The Fall (stunning)

Worst PQ = Either 28 days or March of the Penquins
