Once again another laptop spec thread! (but i am clueless on laptops)

I am returning to uni this September and will be in need of a portable and powerful laptop budget is between £600-£700 (is this a realistic budget).

It will be used for 2D/3D modelling works, and photo editing and manipulation.

Thanks

well they say it gets very hot so that an issue. but im not that big on laptops.

Their not cheap though, I think £200 - £250 additional from a standard screen

I'm buying mine from the bay, good seller cancelled orders from Dell

2.26ghz
4GB DDR3
3670HD 512mb
320 7200rpm
RGBLED
Backlit

£800

For that type of price i would look into a macbook. I just made the switch and couldn't be happier. 6 hour plus battery life as well (depending on what you use it for) which is great for portability. They are rather pricey though even with the HE discount...

Macs are of no use sorry as the programs I use are windows specific.

i did a lot of researching and in the end went for the XPS 16, it hasnt arrived yet but what i found:

Its under 3kg, so its really not that heavy.
It gets hot when gaming, but if just browsing /light work its fine. I assume if you are working you will be at a desk so does it really matter?
Get the SSD upgrade, it will make a huge difference to over all performance.

The spec I went for:

2.4ghz
4gb
256 SSD
1080p RGBLED 16inch

As soon as I get it I will do a write up, but my delivery date is current not until the 25th as there was a 9 day wait for SSDs.

256 ssd?! how much did this laptop set you back?

edit nevermind, the other thread said £1200 but i think that was a bit out of his budget...
