Rate your driving ability

1) 7, don't check my rear view mirror as much as I should. Always know what's beside me though.
2) 11, learnt how to dive in a van and can squeeze in to any space wide enough using only mirrors.
3) 10, Always drive like I have a VIP in the back
4) 10, Always let people out if they gave been waiting before I arrive at a junction. Give lots of room on narrow roads. Never block driveways or side streets when waiting in traffic.
5) 7, I know all the signs but might still fail the theory on some silly road rule. 19 years since I took my test.
6) 5, good in a straight line. Never tried going sideways :)
7) 5, never had any scares at high speed so don't know
8) 8, always brought a car under control during a blow out (x3) and once when the bonnet popped open on the motorway while in the 3rd lane.

1) 6, General awareness/anticipation
2) 7, Parking ability
3) 9, Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco?
4) 8, How patient and courteous are you to other road users?
5) 6, What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?
6) 9, High speed control of your car in dry conditions
7) 8, " wet/icy conditions
8) 9, Your ability to correct your car when out of shape

My attention tends to wander too much which means I'm not as aware of things as I should be and its quite awhile since I studied the highway code so I have to admit I'm quite ropey there... 6 is prolly being a tad generous.

I've done quite a bit of karting and track so my control and cornering is a lot better than my general driving ability and observation...

Anotther gripe about these threads:

"I've been trained by a Police instructor etc"

So? I've been taught martial arts by a 10th degree grandmaster, and someone else who trains the CIA in close combat, but does that make me Bruce Lee 2? I think not!

Police drivers are trained to a very high standard and that includes standard 24/7 response drivers.

I had a three week intensive response driving course and it improved my driving no end. Reading limit points is the single best thing I ever learned and you can navigate roads so much better when you learn to read them. It helped me immensely when I had my MR2 Turbo which as any owner will tell you can bite your arse with little effort and put you backwards through a hedge.

The Stig I am not but much improved than before I had the course I am.

1) 7-9 Depends. Like most people I have off moments, but mostly I'm pretty good.
2) 9 for bays, 5 for parallel - I hardly ever need to do it.
3) 8 unless I'm hooning it, where speed trumps subtlety
4) 8 most of the time.
5) 6 I suspect.
6) 7 The car's limits are way beyond mine.
7) 7 Ditto.
8) 6 The car's ability to get back into shape is superb - I just kinda go alone for the ride. I'm a great believer in the old RAF saying: "a superior pilot is one who uses his superior judgement to avoid those situations that would require the use of his superior skill".

Ironically your post in this thread is the most pointless post thus far.

Not really, if I were being facetious I would say it's in keeping with the rest of the thread.

All I'm saying is... what are we getting out of all this? Nearly everyone thinks they're an amazing driver, whilst everyone else is awful. Just seems a bit odd - nobody's going to bother reading anybody else's posts are they?

It's OK I'll just go back and sit in my shed. :p

I dont need the internet to judge how average of a driver I am, some of you need help if you think you can judge your own driving.

I will have been driving 10 years in December and I have never crashed but if you think I am going to rate myself, for whatever reason, I have not binned my car because I drive for a reason, to be free and have the freedom and to respect the laws on the highways, RTCs happen, I have have been a little stupid but soon learned the respect of having a licence.

My driving? Awful. I drive far too fast, take too many risks, get wound up by other road users too easily, sometimes lazy with signalling and my parking is sloppy and rushed. I blame this on driivng a van round the city centre all day.

My observation and car control is very good but thats about it. Luckily I'm yet to crash.

Probably between a 4-5 for all of them apart from 4 as that has nothing to do with driving skills.

I just cant believe how many people are giving themselves 8's and above, someone needs to contact the WRC/F1 talent scouts. :D

First off, good topic OP, now my answers:

1) 9 - I think being a motorcycle rider helps massively, but it’s not a perfect 10 as I’m still human.
2) 6 - not got any real issues with this, but I'm a lazy parker, not done a reverse parallel park for quite some time.
3) 8 - fine with this on both the bike and car, didn't want to go as high as ten though :p
4) 8 - I'm usually always patient with other drivers, within reason mind, an old dear doing 30 on an NSL and I'll overtake asap.
5) 5 - err, enough to get by, but as with most things you learn, unless you use it all the time, stuff can be forgotten (certain signs etc)
6) n/a - I don't do high speed in cars, but would imagine I'd be fine - the observation skills I am constantly building up on the bike should help somewhat.
7) n/a - frankly you'd have to be a **** to drive at high speed in these conditions; assuming that by ‘high speed’ you mean > 10-20 mph over the posted limit.
8) n/a - never pushed beyond my ability, so I can't say.

Scort.

Can you slide into a space 2 inches longer than your car is wide using only a handbrake turn?

was drunk when i posted last night, so might of overrated my abilities, although as a nipper i use to try and handbrake into tight spots in my feild cars, wouldnt stand to close though, few trees got clipped!
