Who hates the Union Flag?

people complaining about the Union Flag saying there's no welsh on it, it's not the countries themselves on the flag, the different parts are the patron saints, obviously St George's and St Andrew's are easily recognisable, St Patrick is a Red X on a white back ground, but St David's flag is Black with a yellow "+" cross on it, which I don't think would look too bad, yellow under St George hehe

Mozambique's flag is better. It has a gun on it, therefore is better.

Plus the British flag has been ruined too often by a certain political party and its supporters.

I dunno, last weekend hearing the Belgium national anthem for the first time since well the last time the bbc did that gp was quite an eye opener for how awesome an anthem really can be. Also a massive fan of the Italian one, make Ferrari's constant winning over the last few years has been worth it :D

That's true, those anthems have really good music - I love the Italian anthem.

God Save the Queen is a great anthem, but the music is a bit boring :(
Jerusalem is a bit too slow paced though; something that Rule Britannia is not.
Land of Hope and Glory is pretty good too as far as the pace goes

Jerusalem

But, as long as the UK has a monarchy I think the "official" anthem should remain this

Perhaps it could be relegated to only being sung whenever a member of the Royal Family is present and Britannia used at other times though

The issue I have with our current anthem, though, is that several other countries have the same tune with different lyrics. We just adapted it to ourselves rather than it really representing our nation.

Surely that's a reason to try to 'take it back' and promote it for non extremist use?

Meh. The only time I feel its appropriate now is for England football matches and of course that only means using the St. George's flag.

Other than that I just feel like I want to burn it when it's being waved around to propagate hatred by a minority of distasteful people.

Err, they adapted it form us - the tune dates back to possible a very old Scottish carol which was adapted by Bull and then further adapted to be our anthem tune

Its been hijacked by the BNP and other facist organisations to promote racism.

Its very sad, and it shouldn't be like this.

If that's true then thankyou, I have learned something tonight :)

That's what I seem to remember, no doubt someone will come along and correct me though :/

EDIT: The Scots carol in question is "Remember O thou man" apparently
I can definitely see some similarities.

But everyone keeps voting labour and ballot boxes go missing so the extremists will stay in power :( No more should our flag be in iraq and afghan on labours war of marxist terror to keep israel safe

I agree that politically we shouldn't be there, although I do 100% support our army/navy/RAF in doing what they asked to do (the two are very different issues imho). I occasionally see servicemen at Waterloo station and I honestly look up to them.

I hate what this government has done to my country. I've never voted Labour and can't see why I would ever do so in the future.

But to decry the flag for a decade or two of recent history compared to hundreds of years of heritage is something I can't understand.

I love our Union Jack flag - it's a great design.

I do however dislike the English flag. I hate how I've now just gone to being predjudice about it whenever I see and relating it to chavs/chav culture :(

Who here would own a car painted in Union Jack colours though?

I think I actually would (unless the union dies thanks to Scotland) as it looks OK, better than

No but I would (possibly) buy a car in British Racing Green :)

Hold on, why is a German car painted in the US Flag?

Or for that matter, why is a Malaysian car painted in the union flag?

Because the Malaysians have 0% technical input into the car, and only finance it (actually I don't think they even finance it as Lotus is turning a profit).

EDIT: Can anyone find a pic of the single seater from Trackmania Nations/Forever in the British flag colours?

Good to hear. My uncle wrote three of them off in his lifetime. A goal I can only dream of and probably never achieve :)
