District 9 review...it's looking good... **SPOILERS**

It can't possibly be as bad as Spielberg's WOTW.

I am currently trying to track down the Pendragon version.

I thought this was very good, while it was obvious that is was a social commentry about the troubles in SA between the whites and the blacks it was still an enjoyable movie.

And WOTW remake was seriously rubbish. Very generic and boring, nowt to it.

In what way did it insult your intelligence? It was a reasonably decent movie, I thought.

(a) Plot deviated wildly and unnecessarily from the book

(b) Narrative was basic, stereotypical and predictable

(c) Characterisation was poor and superficial; 30 minutes into the movie, I no longer cared about Cruise or his family and would have been happy to see them all die

(d) Logical gaps and plot inconsistencies were never addressed or resolved

I'm assuming you've never read the book. If you haven't, and you're still interested in the story, I highly recommend it. The book is a masterpiece. Spielberg's movie is just a dumbed down moneyspinner.

I just got back from seeing this and it was a big surprise. Really really good imo. The themes are fairly obvious and theres nothing subtle about it in any way in fact. BUT, you felt for the characters, the action was intense and really well done, just a great fun film. Pretty dark though which I didnt expect. Not hugely disturbing just quite gory and a bit surprising.

PS Cloverfield sucked in comparison and so did WOTW.

+1 Just got back as well from seeing it. Thought it was a very good film, a lot better than i expected. Well worth a watch :)

Just back from the flix, really enjoyable watch, obviously being set in South Africa the "apartheid" nature of the humans/aliens is a good but obviously theme of the film.

The plot was fairly "linear" in nature but still remained enjoyable, the "Prawn's" CGI was pretty good on the whole but I didn't think it was the best CGI I'd seen. There is obviously going to be a sequel, there are so many loose ends left in this film.

I couldn't work out if the lead characters South African accent was really bad or really good (I don't know many South Africans), he sounded almost Livepudlean at times.

Special effects were good with a nice mix of CGI and live action, the alien weapons rock ;)

I didn't read the book.

Just finished watching this. Was nice too see a change from the usual movies where everything is set in America.

It was good but boy some of the plot holes were ridiculous. Also the main guys accent was a bit annoying at times.

Still though a very good movie overall.

Expand.

Also the accent was fine here, fit the location.

D-9 looks to be something like that from the trailer, but it's really not, it's not remotely 'epic', no real storyline
No story, NO STORY? Were you sleeping half the movie or something?

Unfortunately not. The story was crap dude. We can't talk about it because it will become a spoiler thread, but jesus, nothing actually really happens.. You go because you expect some independence day style lazer mothership madness, and you don't get it. The script sucked in the most part, and that mocumentary shooting style is a lazy narrative device imo. I'm being a bit harsh tbh but I'm really against the hype, people get carried away (10/10, 10/10 - do me a favor!). If it had been advertised as a comedy and funnied(sic) up a bit then maybe, but it's been marketed as some epic film, which it isn't. I would say 2001: A Space Odyssey is like a 9.5, and you people are waving tens around. Mumble grumble.

thought this was a freakin fantastic movie, the cgi was awesome the aliens looked great and it really changed you from at the begining thinking damn I hate these guys to really feeling for them at the end

Saw it tonight and absolutely loved it. I think your comment there is so far from the point of the film it's ridiculous.

If your expectation was some Independence Day-esque alien madness then fair enough, I understand your disappointment. I didn't get that vibe from the trailers, but that may have been due to knowing what it was about before the trailers surfaced.

One thing I noticed though was that the clip from the trailer with the alien being interviewed saying "We just want to go home" wasn't actually included in the final film.

A question for those who've seen it - do you reckon Chris ever came back? And if he did....what do you think he brought with him (if anything)?

I too noticed that scene wasn't in the film itself. I saw it tonight aswell. Would have been good to see that and chrises return!

I really quite likes it,especially the pig firing robot.
