District 9 review...it's looking good... **SPOILERS**

OK film, not great, how anyone can give is a 10/10 i would never know, I wold give it a 8/10

Plot - OK, too simple to basic

Acting - good, apart from the main character saying f00k a billion times

CGI - OK, some bits looked pants -mech bot jumping over the car

Ending - dreadful, too short and didnt fill any holes what so ever.

Sorry to nitpick, but from your opinions there I'd assume you'd rather around a 5 or 6 out of 10.

Let's not forget that a 10/10 is a PERFECT movie. An 8 or 9 out of 10 is a damn good one. 6 and 7 are perfectly entertaining and respectable pieces of work, with a 5 being "half a perfect film".

While I'd rank District 9 around a 7 or 8, I think you're aiming a little lower.

I couldn't work out if the lead characters South African accent was really bad or really good (I don't know many South Africans), he sounded almost Livepudlean at times.

Um, LOL? The lead character was played by a South African. I think it's safe to conclude that his accent is genuine. ;) I did warn people about the South African accent, and from some of the more recent posts, it seems that my warning was justified. :p It is not an easy accent to endure over 90+ minutes.

You go because you expect some independence day style lazer mothership madness, and you don't get it.

Really? Why did you expect some independence day style laser mothership madness? The trailers gave no suggestion that this would be the case; in fact, they strongly implied that the opposite was true.

If you wanted a typical Hollywood dumbfest instead of an intelligent movie, you should have gone elsewhere.

I thought it was awesome - 8 or 9 out of 10. Most original sci-fi I've seen in a very long time. I also thought the cgi was of a very very high standard which I wasn't expecting.

A question for those who've seen it - do you reckon Chris ever came back? And if he did....what do you think he brought with him (if anything)?

Spoiler Alert:

Don't know if Chris ever came back, perhaps that would be handled in a sequel, though I don't think one is/was planned at time of filming.

That being said, the closing shot of Wikus as a full prawn, suggests that certainly he doesn't return anytime in the near future.

DUDE Edit that out. You just boned half the story for people who havent seen it!

More fact people are losing their minds.
Dude, look at the topic, District 9 REVIEW.
If you don't want spoilers, wait till you've seen the movie before reading forum posts about them, that's what I do.

Reviews don't usually drop spoilers, and there is such a thing as courtesy.

Every person in this thread who has seen the movie, has also been polite enough to refrain from exposing key plot elements. It's not difficult.

District 9 ***SPOILERS***

Making a new thread because people are whining the review thread has spoilers. What they are doing reading it is beyond me! But please delete or merge my post if you think it's applicable in that thread.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's exactly what I was expecting and I don't know why people automatically assume it was going to be a massive sci-fi battle like in the other thread. From the trailers which I avoided all except one gave me the exact impressions aliens for an unknown reason have had to stop here on earth and can't leave/are stuck living with humans and there's a massive struggle.

It explores a "what if" scenario, showing the ramifications it has on the local populace, changes in laws to even give these aliens some "rights" if barely any. Showing how the world or at least SA dealt with them. Ultimatelty it showed mans greed for technology/weapons of war and that's all MNU wanted, "forget lives, as long as we get the weapons, do it".

Then you have the friendship of human//alien, albiet initially for selfish reasons, in the end Wikus had a change of heart and did the right thing.

It shows a different social structure of the aliens, a worker/thinker cast?
There's the relationship between Chris and his child, just like most of us treat ours.

People say it has no story, it clearly does. I love these types of films, they are gritty, have this semi documentary feel to it, the CGI didn't bother me at all, I don't rate this film one bit by it's graphics. The acting was life-like and not modeled/trying too hard.

They have opened it up for a sequel, Chris could come back, Wikus still needs to be "fixed", we will have to deal with the fact that the "Prawn" will return to earth to save the rest of them, to semi quote chris "I need to save my people". But coming back to earth will they want revenge?

Revenge on the entire planet or just mnu/those involved? You could see Chris's attitude changed once he saw they experimented on his people.

It will also be 3 years later, will MNU have figured out a way to finally use and replicate these weapons?

I didn't spoil anything either, hence why I made a new thread but to the point of being insulting you (not you specifically) really do have to be stupid to continually join threads about films and whine about spoilers. It's like always forgetting fire burns. It has been happening for at least 10 years in my experience, why should it stop now? I learnt my lesson years ago and I avoid threads for this reason, until I have seen the film.

It's that easy.

Reviews don't contain spoilers in your definition yes, not in my english definition and experience of the word.
Also, will you please take note people are writing their opinions on the film in this thread, not reviews, so the whole thread to start with is a bit skewiff with people not understanding what a review is, to talk about something you have just experienced/seen/heard/tasted, whatever. To go back and analyze on.

The title doesn't suggest spoilers in my opinion. How hard is it to say ***SPOILERS*** at the top of your post?

Watched it yesterday, was a good film on the whole, but far from great, i liked the idea and general story but i found the main character to be really irritating.

That's right yes, an intelligent movie, riddled with subtle visual narrative and cleverly intertwining plot twists.

Or, a very basic storyline with a vague comparison between human/alien - white/black in South Africa and a load of chewing gum for the eyes (CGI).

I'm going to re-watch it tonight, I feel like I missed something fantastic!.

Easily an 8 or 9 in my books.

The lead character's ******* language was perfect, his "character" was just that and acting excellent, he was a perfect choice for this role easily and I cannot imagine anyone else being able to get the language, the accent and the emotions just as right as Copley.

I rate the CGI better than ironman because with D9 you get teh sense that yes this technolgoy could be real because it contrasts with the real world so well whereas in other Hollywood films like Ironman it's all flash and gadgets and technology.

I like this kind of contrast because whilst it's out of this world it's also believable.

The plot was standard fare BUT it has some unique bits which not many (if any?) films have done before which made it interesting and gkept you wondering what would happen next and it had a few twists too.

If Moon doesn't steal the top position over this then this will be the best film I have seen in 2009.

Many people are too used to the Hollywood releases and are too afraid to like a film that does it different and does it very well I feel.
