The Beatles (Stereo Boxset 16CD & DVD) (2009 Digital Remaster)

It was £135 at Amazon last week - before it went back up to £170.

The old one has kept its value well. Just wish it was closer to £100 :D

All of their records are BADLY in need for a stereo remaster, so I'm glad that they're doing this.

Aren't they re-releasing the mono ones too?

In any event, I'm going to be buying it.

Hmmm. Depends on how the remaster has been done.

If it's keeps the original dynamic range but just ups the quality - fine.
If it compresses the dynamic range to make it sound louder... Baaaaaad!

Will have to wait and see.

Generally I'd stick to the mono recordings as originally recorded. Stereo remasters of mono recordings often don't work.

Its really really good, the remasters sound so good. Even Dr Ebbetts himself has said how much better they are than his.

Also, rumours going around that iTunes store is gonna be getting Beatles stuff on the 09/09/09 with all the rock band stuff.

Oh.. and DVD-A, SACD or BD-Audio versions would be great too - as they've gone through all the trouble of going back to the best possible sources and digitising them in the highest possible quality, may as well make use of them.

Theyre not doing Vinyl releases let alone any DVD-A etc stuff, which is a bit rubbish. Hopefully 2012 releases will be...

I dunno. The remaster of Pet Sounds is pretty impressive, keeping the dynamic range instead of compressing it.

But as another poster said, apparently the remasters are "better than we could ever have hoped". Which is a great sign.

I won't be buying on "Release Day" - I stay away from the hype and buy things a little cheaper later on.
Saying that I have had a "Shipped" notification on Rock Band Beatles.

I have a lot of the albums on vinyl from a collectors point of view.
I also have all of the albums on CD.
But the remastered versions look like a must buy, so I'll have them eventually.

Personally Id by the mono remasters set which is coming out too. The Mono versions sound better to me.

You would then still need to but the Albums that were only relased in stereo

"So what’s the big deal about mono mixes? This is the first time that these mono mixes have ever been released on CD. When The Beatles were recording these albums in the 1960s mono was the standard and thus they spent a lot more time on the mono mixes than they did on the stereo mixes.

In fact, Geoff Emerick (Beatles engineer) said that the band was very involved with the mono mixes but not at all with the stereo mixes. The stereo mixes were basically “thrown together” without a whole lot of thought, while the mono mixes were worked on until they were “perfect.”

Some consider these mono mixes to be the “real” versions of The Beatles albums up through The White Album and I’ve heard a lot of people say that the mono mixes are of superior quality to the stereo mixes, in particularly for the 1967 classic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band."

Now Im no expert but I have read this a lot. Help and Rubber Soul come in stereo on the box set too.:) (Although Im not sure why the later albums are too?)

DOCUMENTARY: The Beatles on Record
On: BBC 4 (107)
Date: Sunday 6th September 2009 (starting in 46 minutes)
Time: 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM (1 hour long)

In 1962 an unknown group from Liverpool entered Abbey Road Studios to record their debut single. During the next eight years they created what is arguably regarded as the greatest collection of studio recordings of the 20th Century. This film charts how The Beatles developed as musicians, matured as songwriters and created a body of work that sounds as fresh now as the time it was recorded.
(Stereo, Subtitles, Audio Described)

Starring: Paul McCartney

I will be getting the stereo box set in 2 weeks. Heard some of it today and that was enough to sway me.
