Just finished Farscape... my life now feels frelling empty *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

Really, that was going to be the next show I started watching...

It's worth it just for the first 6 seasons of win... but just prepare yourself for the thing going belly up shortly afterwards. I didn't even make it through to the end, lost interest after th first few eps of season 8 and keep meaning to go back to it, but...

Why not Star Trek? DS9 is amazing, it takes a while to get going but once you get immersed in the story and the characters like Worf, Quark and Garack its epic.

Stargate is also very good but there's far too many filler episodes imo. If you like long immersive stories I would chose DS9 over Stargate, but both are very good.

Funnily enough, the last time I watched DS9 wa when it was originally shown all those years ago on BBC2. I never finished it, until last night I finally watched everything.

I think Garak has to be one of my fav Star Trek characters ever, in fact I really liked the entire cast. Garak was awesome though, he was so unlike any of the other characters - he would always keep you guessing.

I've given up on X files (seen it a dozen times already) just started Farscape again. Couldn't resist. :D

You do realise that B5 fits this description EXACTLY for most of the 1st season, except worse, right?

The 1st season of B5 is best watched again after you have watched the entire series through. Its only then that you pick up on the scope of what season one sets up.
For me its the best season of B5, especially some of the episodes late in the season like "A voice in the wilderness" and "Babylon Squared". I always liked the Sinclair character better than Sheriden and very nearly stopped watching the series back when it was first aired when I heard that they had dropped the character. I have always wondered how the series would have panned out if the Sinclair character had stayed around.

How about 'Andromeda' for a series to watch.

It might be less heard of compared to some shows being mentioned here.

I never did watch it all, or even get halfway for various reasons.

Only the first two seasons are really worth watching. After that Robert Hewitt Wolfe left, and it went down the pan :( (Basically turned into an iffy Trek wannabe)

Firefly is total and utter tripe, nothing more, nothing less.

Try something completely different, these are two Anime series I'd reccomend (Your tastes in SF etc. seem to be broadly similar to mine):
* Full Metal Alchemist
* Last Exile

Plenty more stuff out there to watch, sadly a huge amount of it is junk. (Not that it stops me watching it)

Hey thats no way a universally accepted opinion! IMO season 8 is by far the strongest season of the shows run. The only area is got a little dissapointing is the mythology episodes of season 9 the stand alones stayed strong throughout. :)

Mulders sister was the single biggest epic fail of any plot... ever. The mythology went **** up after season 6, Carter obviously lost direction and had no idea where to take it after the masterful build-up. Shame.

Woah! steady on cowboy! Such a claim could have thousands of Browncoats descend upon us in it's defence
But I wasn't a huge fan either (although it did have a few good episodes and Mal/Jane were very good).

Andromeda was actually pretty decent for 2-3 seasons.
Then it became...very bad. Season 5 in particular is rivalled only by season 4 of Lexx for how bad it is.

Farscape starts a bit slow but goes on to be truly great. Although I could have done without the cartoon episode.
But stick with it just to watch "Scratch and Sniff" which is just so weird and funny :)

Oh and Babylon 5's first season it's best? Liking Sinclair?
I've seen it all now ;)

Captain "I have one facial expression in my acting repertoire" Sinclair. Truly a highlight of B5, if only for the comedy value. Season 1 the best? Hourses for courses I guess... ;)

Babylon 5

Its corny to start with, and by the last series it was running out of steam, but the story line is soooo epic and the characters are sooooo thrust deep into it its superb. Its about watching them grow more than the pew pew, which there is some seriously cool pew pew action, which looks so dated, but is so awesome :O lol

Whilst it is comparable to DS9 its more gritty and adult orientated DS9 was pg rated for the whole family. Both awesome but B5 grittier and more "real" if you can call fiction real O_o

Just finished watching BSG and have the feeling nothing will ever come close to it again :(.

Is Babylon 5 or Farscape my salvation?

In my opinion they're both better than BSG.

So... I now find myself once more at the end of an epic journey, and one that has left me feeling that I have seen true Sci-Fi greatness, just as I did when I finished B5 and BSG. I have the usual feeling of emptiness that follows the last episode, but I can deal with it.

Now, what to start next...:D
Personally having seen all the ones you've listed so far I wouldn't say Farscape is better than B5 but its a personal thing
Now you have the below as options from the top of my head -
LEXX - take B movie and mix in farscape, its better than it sounds trust me
Andromeda (Gene Rodenberry) - first 3-4 seasons are good, last one not so good in my view.
firefly - cowboys in space

You've got your twilight zone/x-files/outer limits although maybe not scifi in the sense of your previous series.

Another series which hasnt been mentioned is Earth Final Conflict. I've watched a few episodes and it seemed ok ish.

Or Mutant X entirely not a rip off of X-Men.

From what I remember Earth Final Conflict was interesting for the first season or two then it just got plain weird. I also couldn't keep up with the seemingly high cast rotation.

This could have been a result of me being quite young at the time it was on and just not being able to grasp what was happening but I certainly remember giving up on it.
