Spec me a cpu cooler s'il vous plait

Cheers for the tips on that, I'm not into doing lapping, just need a simple cooling solution. Take the mobo out is about as far as I'm prepared to bother.

Looks like it's now between sunbeam and titan.

ok, if you're not into lapping then this one below is very good too:-

because to be honest, the Thor's hammer is a waste of money unlapped,/ dual fans...you'd be better off with a True or the one above

Thanks. I've done some more research and even googled a sunbeam v red scorpion. They're both on a par and the sunbeam is slightly better in some tests. So I'm happy to go with the sunbeam. However, my only reservation now is a new thing that cropped up.. push pin installation. Both of those are pushpin. I've read that most people need to remove the motherboard to fit the sunbeam even though theoretically it's possible to fit it without doing that. I've read it's quite tricky and needs a lot of pressure. Would you agree with that? These are what some people say in the review tab of the sunbeam. I also read of someone that broke his motherboard trying to install push pins. So I'm wondering if I should accept that the mobo will come out and just go for something with a screw in bracket. I think I'll go with the Titan after all, that has screw in brackets and they're all on a performance par. Superewza, where did you read about it falling apart? Am I taking a massive risk with it?

Well im running with a Titan and did some research before i brought it and mine is not falling apart.:D

:D That's ok then.

Did you find installation easy for the titan?

Doesn't matter if you can't answer these questions, thought I'd ask though :)
Will it fit easily into my coolermaster CM 690? I know the sunbeam CCF fits because I've seen a review and photo of a sunbeam in a 690 with good clearance. I think the titan is about similar size? What kind of temperatures do you reckon I can expect with the titan if I tell you that my cpu temp now, on idle, with stock cooler, is 45 to 46.

Frostytech gives the CCF better temps than the Fenir on AMD systems, but just a tiny bit worse on Intel systems.

Yeah, something still worth considering for sure. Something else I'm not clear about regarding installing these heatsinks if you don't mind me asking. See this picture of the CCF where the AMD silver clip is that clips onto the bracket just like my stock heatsink on my mobo? If i was to buy any AM2 heatsink, do they all have that, such as the titan?

I thought you were going to get the CCF? But yeah, they should all come with the appropriate mounting hardware.

Thanks. Well yeah, but a few posts up I mentioned about my concern with pushpin installation which is what the CCF, and xigamatekawotsit have. What's your opinion of that?

My opinion of that is that all of the coolers have appropriate mounting hardware for either socket, and that they're just pictured with the LGA assortment because it's more popular. It will work.

Change of plan. I'm buying this now, the scythe mugen 2. I tend to post at lots of places to get lots of opinions, (I know, I can't myself, I like to be thoroughly clear when I buy something :D) and 3 people recommended it saying it's pretty much the best cooler for AMD and that pushpin doesn't make as good contact as bolt downs. They posted the OCuk link for it, which is good.:)

Meh, it's okay. I prefer the CCF though. Also with the really big coolers you have to be careful when moving them.

Yeah, I googled mugen 2 and cm 690, looks like someone has fitted it into theirs.
I noticed the fan speed is 1300 RPM whereas the sunbeam and titan are 2000+ and airflow CFM is lower in the mugen too. And I'm not sure if the mugen has a fan control either. It is more expensive than the others, but I don't know if that necessarily qualifies it as a better cooler.

I wasn't talking about if it would fit or not, i was talking about moving the case. You could snap the motherboard with a really heavy one.

Yeah, sorry, I was thinking about fitting it in the case and completely overlooked what you just said, but you're right. Ah, I dunno anymore. Guess I'll probably go with the sunbeam and be done with it.

most of these big tower coolers need push/pull for max cooling and most are awkward to fit, the fins stick out too far....i.e there not a hope in hell that i can fit Thor's hammer with the mobo in the case, there's not enough room to get your hand around the ``blind side``...not with dual fans.

This beast is about 5 times as big as my standard AMD cooler

They do? Oh, ok, didn't know that. I thought the pushpin was just another method instead of screws, didn't realise it also has an important role in the cooling process. Unless anyone wants to talk me out of it, I will buy the Sunbeam CCF as first suggested by Superewza and I thank you all for your assistance and patience ;)

no sorry, i mean push/ pull 120mm fans.... your mounting system is ok, it's the same as mine

Ah right, I see. My mounting system is ok, meaning, pushpin?

Oh well, I'd better just go for the CCF, I'm starting to feel worried that I'm asking too many questions again as I often do. :p
