Wouldn't surprise if the bunch of cons had cottoned onto what people where doing to avoid fees.

Paypal and eBay have become far too greedy in the last few years. I stay clear unless absolutely necessary.

The sender of the gift will have had to pay it.

Echeques can be still sent fee free

it depends on the funding source - if your paying with a card the card fees are passed on - if your funding from a bank balance or PayPal balance tis free

Then you are using your paypal balance or bank balance.

When using credit card there is still a fee.

And theres no way im confirming my bank account, so paypal have access to take money if a transaction goes wrong.

Ahh, I only ever send gifts from physical balance - so there still no fee for that.

Just tried it out, glad that's still free

that'll be your problem - the gift is being sent from your debit card and as such they charge you for it.

Now add your bank account to the PayPal account and the money would come from the direct debit which is essentially free to PayPal so you get free gift sending...

Areeee. Think thats whats happened, my debit card number has changed so i added the new one. Its still the same account number and sort code but the 16 digit and expiry dates are different. Maybe i need to verify it or something

Ive always used the my debit card to send gifts, not had money in my paypal account and not had to pay a fee for gift send before

Tell me about it, the fees are huge but there is no credible alternative. My latest Ebay invoice was £25 for selling two items! And that excludes the Paypal fee.

It's always had a fee, either you or the receiver pay it. Although there is something like if you already have funds in, then you don't pay.

Like ive already said, i havent had funds in my account for a year and use send gift to people and ive not had to pay a fee (neither have they)

I know it's an old thread but I've just been charged 3p to send a £6 gift with Paypal. This is different isn't it?

When I confirmed the transaction I got a page similar to that in post #12 with 3p in the fee section. It would cost 43p if I used a credit card for funds!

Bit of a skewed argument without knowing the value of the items you sold?

eBay isn't cheap, but its still the best of a limited bunch at what it does.
