I'm after a MK1 Ford Focus for a friend, just been to look at one

- http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/ds_search.asp?did=10707&pageid=3&gid=nogroup&tid=40 - top one!

We said we'd pay asking as long as they, - repared a few chips in the paint, scratches in the bumper. Did a service and cambelt - Cambelt has never been done! He said that was fine,

Then i noticed the grill at the bottom had a hole big enough to put my hand in, so i asked them to replace it, he started to get funny and say there wasnt enough in the budget to do this, so after a discussion i took my deposit back and left.

Was i too hastey? Im after the best focus on a £3k budget, its proving a nightmare getting something half decent!

Join the club fella, I have a budget upto £3k looking for a Focus as well, most I have come across are poop! Finding it hard to find a decent one, most seem to be overpriced, I will continue me search until I find one.

The ones i found are overpriced or sold, Im aiming for a 5 door, 1.6 Zetec, 2002 - 60k - 70k.

Is that too much to ask for £3k, cant find one anywhere though.

I'm not surprised you havent found too much, you're being very specific with your requirements. Perhaps broaden your requirements a bit? Look at 2.0 or TDCI, Ghia instead of Zetec etc etc
Or even change the car you're after if you're not willing to wait for the right Focus

Its not for me, and you know what women are like!

Im looking at other foci at the moment though.

Oh no, not another woman car purchase....

Look at different engines then or different spec, provided it's the right colour she's unlikely to notice ;)

That ST is rather cheap?!

Maybe it doesn't have service history or something, but at 40k that's a bargain if it has history...

ST looks nice - and suspiciously cheap :)

I'd avoid a car with Northern Irish plates - it will have been thrashed to within an inch of its life!

I got my V reg 1.8 Zetec for £2850 with 39k on the clock about 18 months ago.

Goes like a new car, barely a mark on it and I'm well chuffed.

Most cars are priced/listed too high.. the last 3 cars I have brought recently. 1 for myself and 2 for friends, I (we) paid a lot less than the asking price. My focus a 2001 1.6 Ghia was listed at £2400 and i paid £1700 in the end that was a few months ago.

Ouch, these Focus's are such a ripoff.

I paid less than that for a V reg Mondeo Ghia X..... nearly 6 years ago!
I looked at quite a few at the time and they were all over £3000 with 50k+ on the clock so I was quite happy with the one I bought.

Had 12 months tax & MOT and a new set of tyres too.

Paid £2750 for my MK1.5 1.6 Zetec on 80k a year or so ago. Wanted a 3 door in black and i'd been looking for months before this one came up!

Are they sound cars, do you Foci owners like driving it? What are typical running costs? Would be good to hear views of owners.

i love driving mine. i give it a good caning regularly, and it loves it.... 2.0, so not cheap on the fuel, but parts are sensible money
