Found my old Dreamcast last night whilst sorting out the garage… I also found a Playstation 1 copy of Gran Tourismo original along with my old Playstation 1, from a batch of UK models ever released way back in 1995. I think the unit is suffering from the CD skip, where if you turned it upside down it’ll work….
I seem to remember buying another one a few years after when they dropped in price (still the old fisher price grey looking slabs), but sold that one for a Playstation 2 way back in 2000 or something… I remember my Playstation 2 went on ebay some 6 years later… lol
So many memories came flooding back, but for me the SNES was always what got me into console gaming, but the Playstation was always the next step….
Playing the PS1 version of GT on my PS3 was quite a shock. The graphics are awful compared to what we get today…
The dreamcast I found also has a copy of Tomb Raider and Crazy Taxi, I well forgot about it…. I think I played on that console for about a month before going back to the PS2….
Which brings me to this thread…. Consoles you purchased that never really got used, or you simply forgot about….
Dreamcast, purchased as I fancied a SEGA machine, it just never really grew on me for the first month and it got consigned to the corner and forgot about….
Nintendo N64, was a waste of my money as I got it to play Mario Kart, but it never lived up to the SNES in my mind and I soon went back to Playstation, the Playstation just seemed more grown up whereas the N64 felt like a toy..
Nintendo Gamecube was purchased on an impulse and I so tried to get into the console… I purchased star war games and res evil for it, but again it failed to live up to what I’d expected in a games console and it got sold after 6 months of never being turned on…. Went back to PS2.
Xbox, had this for two weeks and totally hated the controller…. I took it back to the store and got a full refund. Was glad to get rid of it.
Xbox 360 elite, I’d got a new HD 42” TV, and my Playstation 2 was long gone and I was without a console. The PS3 was rather pricey and I liked the black /grey look of the elite and quite fancied Forza and Grotham Project Racing, so purchased one. I got it in November last year a month after I got my HD TV, played it over the Xmas period, but again the lure of Playstation was high… I traded up for PS3, I actually sold the Xbox360 after three months of not using it to fund the cost of a PS3. Best idea I ever had, the PS3 has once again done what all Playstation consoles have done, and given my an enjoyable playing experience with a controller I can use for a length of time.
Oddly the SNES when I purchased it was about to be boxed and sent back as I thought I’d never use it, until I got Super Street Fighter and then it get used nearly every day until the PS1 came along……. lol
