Consoles you purchased only to never use..

Found my old Dreamcast last night whilst sorting out the garage… I also found a Playstation 1 copy of Gran Tourismo original along with my old Playstation 1, from a batch of UK models ever released way back in 1995. I think the unit is suffering from the CD skip, where if you turned it upside down it’ll work….

I seem to remember buying another one a few years after when they dropped in price (still the old fisher price grey looking slabs), but sold that one for a Playstation 2 way back in 2000 or something… I remember my Playstation 2 went on ebay some 6 years later… lol

So many memories came flooding back, but for me the SNES was always what got me into console gaming, but the Playstation was always the next step….

Playing the PS1 version of GT on my PS3 was quite a shock. The graphics are awful compared to what we get today…

The dreamcast I found also has a copy of Tomb Raider and Crazy Taxi, I well forgot about it…. I think I played on that console for about a month before going back to the PS2….

Which brings me to this thread…. Consoles you purchased that never really got used, or you simply forgot about….

Dreamcast, purchased as I fancied a SEGA machine, it just never really grew on me for the first month and it got consigned to the corner and forgot about….

Nintendo N64, was a waste of my money as I got it to play Mario Kart, but it never lived up to the SNES in my mind and I soon went back to Playstation, the Playstation just seemed more grown up whereas the N64 felt like a toy..

Nintendo Gamecube was purchased on an impulse and I so tried to get into the console… I purchased star war games and res evil for it, but again it failed to live up to what I’d expected in a games console and it got sold after 6 months of never being turned on…. Went back to PS2.

Xbox, had this for two weeks and totally hated the controller…. I took it back to the store and got a full refund. Was glad to get rid of it.

Xbox 360 elite, I’d got a new HD 42” TV, and my Playstation 2 was long gone and I was without a console. The PS3 was rather pricey and I liked the black /grey look of the elite and quite fancied Forza and Grotham Project Racing, so purchased one. I got it in November last year a month after I got my HD TV, played it over the Xmas period, but again the lure of Playstation was high… I traded up for PS3, I actually sold the Xbox360 after three months of not using it to fund the cost of a PS3. Best idea I ever had, the PS3 has once again done what all Playstation consoles have done, and given my an enjoyable playing experience with a controller I can use for a length of time.

Oddly the SNES when I purchased it was about to be boxed and sent back as I thought I’d never use it, until I got Super Street Fighter and then it get used nearly every day until the PS1 came along……. lol

I've played all my consoles, but the Wii has been by far the least used out of any I've previously bought.

Wii, used it for about 2 days then it collected a layer of dust before I sold it.

..oh and the PS3 I only use for BluRays.

Well technology does improve over the years and GT did come out over 10 years ago... so yeaaaaa.

I've never bought a console I've never played. Usually I'll only buy a console if it has a bunch of games I want to play. I don't buy one without knowing whats coming out for it.

Aye but that doesn't stop it being a shock. I recently loaded up Vagrant Story on my PSP, i knew it was an old game but it was one of the best looking titles to ever come out on the PS1 and i assumed the smaller screen would also give it a helping hand. I could not have been more wrong, it looked terrible, even PSP games put it to major shame.

And that sir is a very good way of deciding on what consoles you should buy...

Least I've actually given all consoles a crack to see which one I can get into....

But Nintendo Wii is such an example of you logic. I did think about getting one, but I think its quite pricey for such a gimmick and the games just don't appeal...

My gf has one, it hardly ever gets used. Got the Wii fit and I think you'd be better off just doing some housework, expensive set of electronic scales if you ask me... :p

Very true.. I remember GT on the PS1 being mind blowing at the time..... The whole game looked so real. Now it looks a total mess.

We've been spoiled by eye candy over the years..:D As said though, it was a shock when I loaded GT up lastnight on my PS3, i've seen better games on mobile phones... lol:p

The Wii.

Got it at launch, was used mainly to play Zelda and then when I finished that, I traded it in for a PS3.

Far too much shovelware based around a gimmick.

I've always been a PC gamer up until the 360/PS3 but before they arrived I had a brief dabble with PSone. Dear God. I fired it up and was appalled at the low-res graphics (bear in mind this is coming from 1280x1024 on the PC (already HD). I took it straight back to the shop and that was that. :D

Sad to say also the wii, I'll have a go now and then for some SSBB, RE4 or wii fit action but hardly ever gets used.

PSP, have used this even less than the wii. games I had (even gta) I found incredibly boring, I use it to play lumines now and again.

How incredible lame to expect amazing graphics from a system that came out in 1996. Your loss to be honest. You're missing out on some of the best games ever made.

i was reading his post and thought the same... PS1 had some excellent games for it...

Resident Evil
Tomb Raider
Destruction derby
Metal Gear Solid
Wipeout2097

ooo I could go on, so many great A++ titles.....

Probably my wii, then next to that my gamecube (I played it a lot, till I got xbox live :) ).
Edit: Actually 1st choice would be my ps3, although my brother did pay for most of it, all I've played on it is GTA4 (which Id rather have on 360 :p).

Im pretty bad for just buying a console when Ive got spare cash burning a hole in my pocket. I remember buying an NES with Mario 3, didnt even open the box and took it back a couple of days later, no idea why i did that.

Barely ended up playing the PS2/PSP and PS3 and the Wii and sold all those on. Got thousands of hours out of my PS1/DC/N64/Xbox/360 though.
