slim.

or would it not be beneficial for microsoft financially.

would be good to see one, good chance to get the design better so it does not red as much

Wouldn't they get into trouble if they made a newer model that fixed the overheating issues?

I remember reading that somewhere.

Would be interesting if they did redesign the system though.

Well, the new Jasper design has fixed all the RROD problems, as well as brought better cooling to the Xbox. So no need really.

Because they have better things to do than try and sell their console by making it smaller. Besides, it's already selling well.

There are still people put off buying a 360 because of the failure issues.

They still need to do better in Japan. A smaller more compact console with an internal power supply could spike sales over there.

No matter what they do it will never sell well in Japan.

No point in a slim version really. They are being more sensible and dropping the price of their models even more so than they already have done.

Size is clearly not an issue as the enormous frame of the PS3 shows (and console shrinking boosts sales in all regions). It's the fact that the 360 is made by an American company that's the bigger issue, along with the games being oriented towards the western market.

Not needed, it's not that big as it is.

Failure rate has already decreased dramatically, I would like to see the power brick abolished but it's not too big an issue...it's definitely annoying though when wanting to take it round a friends.

Japanese are not huge fans of "confrontation" which is the core of all western-style FPS multiplayer and most those games are core to the Xbox. I notice on PS3 Battlefield 1943 they mostly all play as snipers.

By anonymously I mean against strangers, moreso foreigners. Do they play against people on their friends' list or will they play against anyone?

I know it's rather silly to try and group a whole nation into one kettle of fish but I'd say they are a) reserved, don't like associating with complete strangers over the net and b) there is no gun culture so FPSes are not their thing. Most J-games are melee or magic based when it comes to combat.

And I don't know why I'm trying to work out why the Xbox 360 hasn't sold in Japan. If I knew the answer, I'd sell it to Microsoft for $$$.

Just LOL, stop talking :p

Obviously anyone because as I said I see lots of Japanese players hosting games on Street Fighter IV. :)

Also Guitar Freaks and Drummania are popular in Japan for competitions IIRC.

Edit: Forgot that lots of Japanese players travel for fighting game tournaments and have to take on lots of people they won't have met, so I don't think they are worried about confrontation.

Theory out of the water then! :D Do they play over the net anonymously though?

Nope, the vast majority (and in this case it's in the ninty percent plus region!) play in local arcades and not even on consoles/PC! So even less will play online. There are pretty much no online fighting game players in Japan :p

They are pretty zenophobic when a foreigner comes to their country and plays in their arcades, just check out Sabin's Japan arcade gaming log on shoryuken.com!
