New 2D HD Sonic coming in 2010

Looks like they have finally listened to thier fans and are bringing sonic back to it's roots with a new 2D game but with HD graphics.

As i'm sure most of you know, i've always said what i want most is a HD 2-D sonic, so i'm pleased to say the least.

All there is about this game is the teaser site linked above, i'm sure your questions will be answered in time but at present only the developers know for sure.

I'm hoping it's a full standalone game, the original sonics were more than big enough for me to consider them again as a full retail purchase.

It does seem that it's becoming fashionable as of late. Look at some of the biggest titles of the past year or two, Little Big Planet, Street Fighter 4, Braid, Shadow Complex, Castle Crashers, Shatter, Splosion Man, Trials HD, all of the pixeljunk games. All of the games employ 2-D style gameplay and in many cases even 2-D graphics. As i say, it seems the gameplay/graphics of the 2-D era are gradually becoming 'trendy' again, i can't remember so many two dimensional games (be it gameplay or graphics) since the snes/megadrive/early days of the PS1.

Sonic Adventure is the only 3D Sonic game I've enjoyed (and I did LOVE it

) but after completing Shadow Complex and loving every second of it, I'm really excited about this.

I hope they keep the game mechanics similar and they have special stages. The SS on Sonic 2 were awesome and on Sonic 3 they were so infuriating with the stupid bouncing balls.

Tails made the boss fights so easy though.

You could hide Sonic away somewhere and have player two destroying Robotnik as Tails and because Tails couldn't die, it was easy as pie.

They fixed that in Sonic 3 & Knuckles though by making sure there was no safe place to hide
