Ford Focus £3k Budget.

I love mine too, granted I came from driving a L reg Ford Escort, but even so it's a great car to drive.

Pokey but not super-fast, handles great, nice and smooth and pretty quiet too.

Interior is basic but pretty solid and I think the 3 door especially isn't such a bad looking car from the outside.

In the last 18 months I've paid £150 for the annual service, £100 for the cambelt to be done at 50k and two new tyres which were £170.

Are they sound cars, do you Foci owners like driving it? What are typical running costs? Would be good to hear views of owners.

Had a 51 plate 1.6 Mk1 since April and all its cost me is a pair of front tyres and fuel. Was averaging 36mpg (all around town) when I first got it (not counted it since...) It is a bit under powered when full of people though.

The Mondeo version of the engines back in <2000 could not be trusted for the full 10 year/100k mile life that was originally specified in the documentation. 50k seems a bit early though.

Which engine have you got? I thought the cambelt was 100k or 10 years?
It's the 1.8 Zetec, car is 10 years old now ('99 V reg) but only just hit 50k.

I bought it at 39k and the previous chap had barely touched it for 3 years since having a company car.

Fair enough, I wasn't having a dig. It's quite smart preventative maintenance having the belt changed as if it was to go the repair bill would be a fair bit more than the cost of replacement.

Any idea of the cambelt interval on a 1.25 Fiesta anyone?

Why so specific on mileage and year?

I can find loads of decent examples around the £1500 mark.

This basically. It'll happily sit at 80-85mph on the motorway all day long, I tend to get around 400 miles from a full 55L tank (40% motorway and 60% round town). Mine's lowered 30mm or so on Eibachs which improved the handling even more. As above with a few subtle mods I think they look pretty smart.

Like someone else mentioned, a car full of people and you'll definately notice. Saying that though, I went camping last week with a friend, we had all the kit in the boot and on the back seats along with 2 bikes on the back and it was a lot better than what I thought it'd be.

Could certainly do a lot worse. :)

I've just sold mine for £2k,

1.8 zetec 52 plate with 105k miles on it and modified, 80% motorway miles.

Was clean for it's age!

I managed 480 miles on a tank, whilst driving to cornwal, quite proud of that running a 4-2-1 and decat :p

I get between 375 and 400 on a full tank but I do almost all my miles in and around town, with the odd motorway jaunt every week or two.

I remember I often got 250-300miles from my 1.6. I think my driving style and country roads may have had something to do with that. :p

Aye, I used to shove mine along a bit more than I do now and it was awful on jungle-juice. 300 from a 55L tank was enough to lighten my right foot a wee bit. Tbh 375 still isn't great but it means I spend a little bit more time on the road than I do petrol stations now.
