hi there, basically im near enough the standard to pass my driving test and was wondering what decentish car you would recommend me to get ive got roughly £2000 cant really go higher than that :(

just wanted to no what suggestions you have as i no **** all about cars ;) looking for like a 1.2 litre or below or insurance will blow me away :(

anyways thanks for the help

One thing I do know is that its not all about the size of the engine, I'm 18 and it was cheaper to insure a 1.8 mondeo than a 1.25 fiesta of the same age. I'm not suggesting you go for a mondeo (even though its a great car :p) but just don't rule out larger cars because you think insurers will charge more because it often isn't the case

yup

if you get a family type car, they often have cheaper insurance than smaller cars that most young drivers have.

does the £2000 include car and insurance?

If so your cutting it a little fine - however my mk3 mondeo cost me £900 and the insurance is around £1800 (on bonus accelerator) in an expensive post code area... £2700 isn't a million miles off £2k ;):p

He could easily get a MK2 Phase 1 Clio 1.2 and insurance for under £2000. Just follow some tips in the links posted above.

A 1.2 clio was my first car and having my parents on as named drivers dropped my insurance to about £900

Depends on how old he is....

Hmmm. I drive the same model Clio and my insurance is £1700 at 18yo...

Get a toyota starlet SR.

I paid £1000 for the car and £600 third party, no ncb. All in all, £1600 for first car + insurance is very good.

That's the cheapest insurance I could find on that car after almost a week of searching. It's actually a rather good rate compared to everyone else around my age.

Serious? Who did you have insurance with? I got mine with Direct Line - fully comp, parents as named drivers with a £500 excess. My parents have direct line for house insurance, car insurance etc and have never made a claim so this contributed heavily towards a discount.....

I hope you're not using those rubbish price comparison websites? When I had a play around yesterday the best they could quote me for my current car (clio 182) was about £1400, which is a joke because I am actually paying £650 fully comp!
