Just what we need ... fake muggings

See problems with this. A friend's dad once stepped in to stop a mugging of an old woman. He punched the guy once to stop the mugging, unfortunately for him that one punch killed the mugger and got sent down for manslaughter. I'd hate to see that happen in one of these stagings.

If I passed a mugging I think i'd probably walk by, weather its true or not I would assume that if I even touched a mugger I would get done for it.

You can use reasonable force to stop a mugging be it on you or someone else.

A mate of mine is an HMP officer and someone tried to rob him with a knife at a cashpoint. He instinctively sparked the lad out cold and was not arrested. In fact, local CID officers applauded his actions.

I can confidently say the police will not endorse it.

We have too many other priorities such as targetting motorists, bullying children, stealing from peoples' cars, enforcing the police state, beating up suspects and ignoring 999 calls etc etc blah rant daily mail, my mate said .... etc blah to deal with staged muggings.

;)

Oh, and I was being post nightshift sarcastic before anyone decides to phone the Daily Mail.

Wow, busy day! How do you make time to eat all those donuts, overtime? :D

OMGOMGOMGOFFICIALPOLICESTATEMENT!!11

I was under the impression that official police advice was NOT to intervene, but to call the police?

M

Definitely, all this stupid idea is going to achieve is create fake 999 calls, and possibly get a few actors punched in the face (maybe not a bad thing)

It'd be funny if the pretend mugger got delayed and a real mugger mugged the muggee and the muggee, along with the rest of the idiots involved, didn't realise it wasn't the pretend one.

Oh how I'd laugh.

What do these people smoke to dream up stuff like this?

= crack.

To be fair to the charity, the BBC did not do their homework on this story - the charity are NOT advocating fake muggings... they are merely releasing the results of a preliminary study into how to make the public more aware. Fake muggings was the most suggested way by those taking part in the study.

There was a very good interview this morning with a representitive of the charity who took the newsreaders apart for their lack of investigative skills and ability to read a website, who also pointed out that thanks to the BBC most people would react like everyone in this thread has. He was not a happy man!
