So Im thinking about keeping a USB stick filled with handy freeware apps that I can carry along to friends houses when they ask for help with minor PC problems (mostly software-based).

Would appreciate some suggestions as I know this forum is filled with a lot of knowledgable people who might know of some nifty apps.

What freeware apps do you carry on a USB stick or a CD when you get that call from your buddy hollerin for help with his/her PC!?

SO far I've got:

Linux Mint
CCleaner
AVG
Spybot
CPU-Z
GPU-Z
Belarc Advisor
PC Wizard
Revo Uninstaller

What else would be handy? :D

slax live cd -this is worth getting essentially, it'll do the same as mint, but loads up way quicker, and runs on really crap hardware too
parted magic live cd(gparted and load of other tools on it, I wish this and slax would combine :) )
live windows (made with bartpe)

ccleaner
nod32 trial
malwarebytes
hijackthis
spybot s&d

windows discs (as many as I have)
everest ultimate trial

looking at that avira cd, looks very handy!

How do you do that?...write-protect a stick? :)

Buy one with a slider to disable write or clcik here

It's awesome, boots to it's own environment and can even update while there!

Very handy tool if safe mode isn't an option. Hell, it's even better than safe mode!

Here's a link the .exe will attempt to write it to a blank CD, if that fails just download ImgBurn & write it that way.

My USB stick is bootable and has Acronis on it, in addition to that, there is ccleaner, microsoft malware remover, malware bytes, file assassin, clamwin, procmon.

Not sure how handy it is but I've got a Ophcrack liveCD which has come in useful now and again.

Came in useful today when a friend dropped around a laptop but gave me the wrong password, couldn't raise them on the phone either to get the right one.

Apart from Sledgehammer lite :p I generally just use some simple software and am able to fix most problems without much hassle. If something proves to be giving me hassle I take it back home with me and fix it there. Of course I have my trusty laptop with me anyways with one of those mobile internet dongle thingys so the internet is never far away.

I hate running scans or anything that takes ages when at someone elses house and would rather just take the computer back with me leaving it working away while I kill zombies.
