Seems my parent mobility car has developed a fault with sports mode, anytime its engaged the car refuses to go out of whatever gear it was in when the button was pressed, it also seemed to be over-revving in regular mode now and again so it may have been starting to affect the regular mode. So i call up vauxhall today and book it in for tomorrow. I ask about a courtesy car while its being looked at and i get the following response:

"you have to book a courtesy car two weeks in advance"

Apparently it seems to be eligable i have to use my psychic powers and diagnose that there might be a fault 2 weeks in advance of the actual fault occuring.

No idea how long it could take to fix, could be a few hours could be a week or more, during that time though my parents will either be housebound or forking out money left and right for taxi's.

Its more the fact you would think they would have cars on standby incase they get a lot of work in, i was told in no uncertain terms that the cars HAVE to be booked 2 weeks in advance (her words not mine).

I would agree if it was a service or a MOT where you have a choice when you take it in, if the car breaks unexpectedly how can you give 2 weeks notice for a hire car?

Exactly the point, im gonna query this tomorrow when im down, maybe they can direct me to a vauxhall approved psychic who can give me 2 weeks notice of any faults. :p

Not just Vauxhall though is it, loads of companys now do these silly things to cut costs in bad times..

Sports mode, mobility car ????

Yes its an astra 1.8, sports mode just fires you through the gears quicker making it handy for overtaking. Its meant to adjust the suspension and steering as well but i cant say ive noticed that.

Couldn't they live without sports mode for the two weeks it needed to book a courtesy car ?

You may want to re-read the initial post first. The gear sticking was starting to affect the car when not in sports mode, it would go to first then over-rev then lurch into second. Better getting it sorted now than having it possibly break down somewhere else.

You'd be surprised what you can get on mobility.

An apology and an admission that no cars were available would have been more appropriate than the customers assume precog abilities.

Dp they have to supply a vauxhall approved car as a courtesy car? Their forecourt is full of second hand cars, including a mk3 mondeo ghia auto. You'd think they could swing it so they could loan out one of those for a few hours or days.

Not entirely sure how their courtesy system is meant to work with regards as to what car you get though. Though i imagine insurance is the reason that only specific cars can be used.

Guess it depends what sort of relationship you have with your dealer, or whether they see you as a cash cow.

When I book a service with my current Audi dealer, you need to do it two weeks in advance to get a courtesy car. If the car breaks down, I would guess I'd be stuck. I have never bought a car from them.

My old BMW main dealer (Owned by the same group as my Audi dealer, the two dealers are a stones throw away from eachother) took a nearly new sale car and gave it to me when they didn't have any courtesy cars available. I had bought two cars from them in the past though.

Im sure it was your good self who pointed out recently that any garage should have an overspill hire arrangement with a local hire company to cover any such eventuality.

If it weren't you fox i apologise.. but somebody mentioned that.

Anyway, my old boy had this happen when his motor was in for service ( also at vauxhall as it happens ) and they had no courtesy cars available, they sorted a hire car in no time.

No my grandparents got a Mondeo (newest one) estate when they took their Zafari in, which they didn't have to book on the day.
