k12 micra 160SR help

Will someone please explain this coilover business for me, since I have always regarded a coilover to be any coil spring over damper combination without a stabiliser bar.

Yes, that is a standard suspension item on a lot of cars, particularly the ones where I see people say that they want to get new coilovers. So what the whole suspension unit has failed? If they want a lowering kit then why don't people say that want a lower kit. Annoys me almost as much as people who say they are short of memory when their HDD is full, it isn't entirely wrong but it is misleading.
Anyway, while I am at it, can anyone explain why a ~110hp car is called the SR160? :p

no idea lol but i think the uprated coilovers are lower but more importantly adjustible

any how if it was me i would just buy some sports springs :D

or leave it and save up for the next car init:D

You are right, a normal McPherson strut suspension is a coil over, as the coil is over the damper.

When people say "coilovers" it is generally a generic term meaning adjustable platform coil over damper units.

The former is on the right, the latter on the left:

Is there a reason why everyone with a hatchback is suddenly fitting coilovers to drive around town centres and pop to the shops?

Suddenly?

People having been using inappropriate suspension setups for many years.
