District 9 review...it's looking good... **SPOILERS**

I am easily pleased when it comes to Sci-Fi, space films, aliens etc, I'll admit. 50 years and no advancement whatsoever since landing on the moon, GG humanity.
What do you mean no advancement ? Have we not lost billions worth of equipment somewhere on Mars ?

Been to see District 9 today and it was really good. I didn't read up at all bout the movie beforehand(including this forum post), and had only seen the trailer, so was going from " the bloody prawns are going to use biological warfare and turn all humans into prawns" to "ag shame, the bloody prawns just want to go home" whilst watching the movie.
I thought the CGI was good, thought it was a good story which conveys a lot of the apartheid and also the xenophobic situation that SA have had.

And as for:
When he was swearing he sounded more like a scouser than a South African.

Just didn't sound right to me... not that it particularly detracted from the film, which I really enjoyed.
This wasn't blood money and an American doing a South African accent, as already stated, the lead actor is actually South African, and trust me, coming from 'n Afrikaner, that he (and most of the others in the movie ) was spot on with the accent and afrikaans swear words coming forth in the movie

So would I, but that's people for you. Everything needs to be spelled out for them. :)

I've worked with Afrikaaners, so I know what they sound like. It's not a pretty accent, but I was nevertheless pleased to hear it in District 9 because it helps to remind everyone that there are other countries outside America where interesting stuff does actually happen.

I agree, it was a nice change. Generally I dislike the SA accent (well SA girls accents, more to the point!). Lets hope for more SA films actually, Im surprised there havent been more.

Fantastic movie, can't wait for the sequel in three years... I can imagine the movie budget for the sequel, and presumptious human v alien war is going to be huge. :D

After me and my mate got an Orange Wednesday code from an electrician at my house we set off to see this last night, thought it was great!

Swearing made me laugh a lot, the accent was just comical!

omgomgomogmgomg how did I miss this?

Im not reading ANYTHING in this thread, but I just saw the trailers and I literally almost flopped my old chap out on the desk at work and fapped like never before. MUST SEE ASAP.:eek::eek:

I mean OK, it's good. But steady on lad.

Saw it the other night, best film I've seen in a long time and I'm totally jaded with everything that normally comes out.

Steady on

I saw this a couple of days ago.

Neill Blomkamp’s film is shot in the style of a documentary — combining real and fake news footage, home movies, interviews and live on the spot footage — following Wikus and his team and his favorite word, as they try and relocate the aliens from District 9. The film’s tone and pace shifts quickly and effortlessly from light hearted comic to the cruel. The film's start shows that the director isn't afraid of trying something new, this almost new take on the Sci-Fi style is a welcomed change over the course of the film. This isn't an open and shut Science fiction romp, it's clever then that, it asks and touches on many different emotions and modern attitudes towards refugees, racism and the fear of the unknown.

A film that started slowly and promised so much, almost turned in to a standard action movie towards the latter part of the film. The pace picks up, and the almost anti hero, Wikus transforms in to an all action hero. Fantastic, realistic effects and an almost predictable ending doesn't let it down in the least, it's done very well and cleverly. The most interesting since Alien? the most emotive since E.T? You can't ignore what happened in the first majority of the film, a wonderful performance and portrayal of how humans can lose their humanity.

my first real laugh-out-loud of september :)

Incidentally had my best EVER cinema experience with this film. I saw on the opening day, at 11 in the morning. Cinema had like 15 people in it tops, and best of all I didn't hear a single noise throughout, no rustling of crisps or slurping of drink cartons. Really was worth the admission ticket. Excellent film to boot. Looking forward to the sequel/prequel.

I went to see it with a couple of classes from College.

It was like being in the trenches of WW1. Popcorn and Wine Gums whizzing past your head every 3 seconds.
