My sister bought me a little pot which included some seeds for growing some venus fly trap plants, anyway as part of the instructions it said to place in a pot with some compost and put the pot in some water and to cover the pot loosely with a clear plastic bag and leave in a warm light place.

Then in 3-4 weeks time when buds start to appear remove the bag. It's only been a week and buds have started appearing already, should I remove the bag now?

I dont own a venus fly trap but i would say so. Maybe out of luck (or skill? ;) ) the himidity level and temperature have been spot in the plastic bag on for the past week

if they're already appearing i guess so.

oh...dont make them close when there's no food as apparently it end up eating itself!

we used to have one in the office but it never had any flies so one of the lads used to feed it live cheesybugs (or rather tried to feed it!) it died after someone tried to re pot it using garden soil.

RIP Jaws :(

I had one last year, died.

Seriously for whatever reason it was the only year there weren't any flies at my windows so i had to entertain myself by poking it with a ruler.

Don’t put them in compost and don’t feed them meat. Pot them in mossy dirt and feed them flies, they should feed them selves effectively.

Fly traps come from boggy places so they like being moist.
Loads of decent sits on the net to find growing help.

EDIT : And dont poke them, they use a lot of energy to close up so if you keep poking it it will die.

I've only ever bought them as plants and never brought on any from seed. Very easy to keep, stand them in water, I use rainwater and give them plenty of light and they'll be fine.
The only time I don't worry too much about them standing in water is during winter when they tend to die back anyhow but don't worry they'll come up again the following year.
If it starts to flower next year it might be best to cut the stems with the flowers back and just let the traps get stronger.

Leave them in for a while. They can still dry out quite quickly if not looked after.

They'll be tiny for ages and not get close to resembling a normal sized venus fly trap for around 2 years minimum. I've grown a few before.

Oh and don't feed them any meat either! :p The grease will kill them!

Id rather have an Audrey 2. :D

Maybe buy dead flys or bugs thats from a pet store if they do that stuff. Maybe they can order some if they dont stock it normally?

Or have a poo out the back and leave it and sure enough flys will come and just pop the venus near it.
