Report of rioting in Birmingham City Centre

I often wonder what life would be like, if everyone got on, there were no wars or alliances, everyone just got a long (sic), despite their differences and worked together ;)

The real world doesn't work like that. Especially when a large part of the real world has its brains infected by the disease of religion.

Do you agree it would be a bad thing if Muslims did take power in the UK?

That would depend on what they wanted to do when they got power, surely?

I don't care about race, religion, gender etc in my politicans, I care about their policies, and what effect they will have on the populace.

Unless of course you're begging the question again with the unspoken implication that if muslims took power they would implement a harsh, saudi-like state or something similar...

So if religion is so bad why do you seem ok with Christianity?

why did you not flee the country when a known catholic was in power?

What do you think they would do?

Why does Labour minister Shalid Malik want a Muslim prime minister and a parliament full of Muslim MPs? If they would do nothing differently, he should be happy with things the way they are, right?

You're begging the question again, not to mention still appealing to ridicule with this line of argument.

The actions of a single MP are not the good basis for an argument, given the wildly varying opinions in the house.

Why do you welcome this?

Welcome what? Multiculturalism has been here a lot longer then me or you.

Wikipedia said:
For instance, the culture of the United Kingdom has not arisen from one ethnic group, but from the immigration and influence of Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Normans and so on. Therefore, they argue, culture is not one definable thing based on one race or religion, but is the result of multiple factors that change as the world changes.

I enjoy being part of a multicultural society.

Multiculturalism is important because it dilutes and dissipates the divisiveness of ignorance. It is important because it encourages dialogue, often between radically different cultures that have radically different perspectives. It is important because it softens the indifference of tolerance, and embraces it with the genuine humanity of acceptance. It is a bridge between the divide of tolerance and acceptance.

Differences aside, human beings, regardless of their specific culture of origin, strive to provide the best they can for their family, and to live in as peaceful and harmonious a world as possible. These two goals unite us all. Multiculturalism makes the ideal and altruistic notion of loving our fellow man a tangible possibility, rather than a nebulous philosophical concept.

To paraphrase American educator Howard Shorr, "mankind must make global multiculturalism a cornerstone of education ... events occurring in our community could have consequences beyond the borders of our world." Multiculturalism is an antidote for ignorance.

What does humanity gain if we simply endure one another's presence within our society? What is the merit in that? Where is the nobility in mere tolerance? There can be no remedial benefits with this narrow-minded approach.

As a species, we are handcuffed by our own cultural myopia if we eschew philosophical, ideological or spiritual knowledge of our fellow man. It is chauvinistic and dangerous if we believe there is no merit in understanding the differences among our global neighbours.

It is incumbent on us to exploit the best of all of our differences for the benefit of as many of us as possible and, by so doing, establish a climate of trust rather than suspicion.

We should cherish the opportunity to sublimate the notion of a rigid Western, Eastern, Christian, Judaic, Islamic, etc. viewpoint and encourage people instead to look at society and culture from the viewpoint of a globally infused diaspora.

I agree with this.

Why are some people so stuck on this idea that the whites must be preserved? Why is so offensive a notion that somehow there might be a decreased percentage of them in proportion to minorites?

I really don't see the fuss and fear over more black people and more Muslims in Britain. I'd happily take a black Prime Minister in the style of Obama or a Muslim leader if they were better than the current incompetant bunch of white people currently leading the country.

On a side note America's white population is going to lose its majority standing around 2040/2050 apparently and I can't say that bothers me in the slightest.

I don't agree, why would having a Muslim in charge be any different to having a Christian or Jew in charge?

Surely, someone should get to be in charge of a country on their polices and what good they can do the country, rather then their religion.

Maybe it is the fear of being treated how they treat minorities?

If you've not got a lot going for yourself personally then maybe clinging onto the fact you are in the 'majority' of a population and therefore try to associate yourself with that success it would be disappointing to lose that.

If Muslims ever run this country then you will see my point, but if that happens then god help us all because it will be too late.

Probably because we're white and we want our own people to survive.

What difference does it actually make what visually identifiable racial group you fall into? There is more genetic variation within common racial groupings than between them...

To be fair, I see where dirtydog is coming from, albeit his view is such a ridiculously hyperbolic one in the face of the actual facts that it's ridiculous.

Dirtydog - I, and I believe most people here, agree with you that seeing Britain overtaken (and overrun) by a political Muslim majority and turned into a semi-Saudi state would be an absolute atrocity. There's no doubting that.

The truth, however, is that should it ever happen it WILL NOT happen in any of our lifetimes, at least. The growth rate of the Muslim population simply isn't as large as you appear to perceive it.

From what you describe, it looks as though you see all of the different races on Britain's streets today, and immediately associate it with your favourite "them" - Muslims. It doesn't matter to your fleeting eye whether they're black, asian, chinese, japanese, indo, whatever - they're not white which in your corrupted subconscious adds to "Muslim" in the end.

I agree with the principle of what you're saying, but not the literal.

Ah so this really isn't about Religion, or anything such.

This is about keeping the "white" people alive at all costs?
