so i need an estate a year old or so, my last one was a peugeot 406 3.0v6 so it had to be as nippy as that on the motorway.

i've got it down so far to a newer ST220, possibly remapped 2.2tdci?
also looking at saab 9-5 HOT 260 version

anyone suggest anything else for ideally no more than 20k

20k, are you looking at brand new?

17k gets you a nearly brand new 2.5T Titanium X Sport, which is as high end as the new shape gets.

Its a significant price reduction on new for the sake of 7k miles, but be warned - it will have a lot more depreciation to go in the coming few years.

ST220/TDCI is another option, but its not going to be the same wafty cruiser as your old Pug or the Saab. You can get the 3.0 V6 (albeit slightly lower powered) in "luxury" Ghia X or "techy" Titanium X guise, which might be a better allround car.

Saying that, if I had 20k to spend on an estate, it wouldnt be on a Mondeo - have you considered something like an Audi A6 or 5 series?

Not sure what you're after in a car, but the above would give you a far superior car which will depreciate less too - win win :)

*Slightly oddly photographed advert, but there arent many tourings on PH for some reason - the other's a 525d, the 535d is certainly worth a look

it was no more than £20k :)

liking the look of that A6, although ive never ever driven a diesel before so im unsure hehe although it cant be that much different :)
im going to look at something at a local dealer this afternoon, chrysler 300c v8, see if its any good

In pretty much every way the 300c isn't meant to be much cop but I, and a lot of other people, find something awesome about them. They are just really, really cool.

Diesel is pretty different, but by no means worse, it depends on your preference. At this end of the market though, its not exactly going to be slow, not with 2.7l and 8.0s to 60 :)

Depends what you want from a car, obviously the A6 has a lot of different petrol engines if you prefer, each with pros and cons. My Dad ordered a new A6 Avant as a company car a few months ago so I had a good poke about them with him - the interior is fantastic, its better built than my house! Loads of space, practicality and some really nice technology on the higher spec ones
