BMW 116i M Sport

what is it with young drivers and being obsessed by engine size alone?

His profile says he's 28!

That said, my dad is obsessed with engine size/tax even though he spends 10k on a new car every 3 years :(

My predicition - this thread will continue as it has started, with everyone advising the OP to get something else. OP will ignore this and buy a 116i anyway.

Scary! I'm just used to seeing first time buyers coming on here saying "I cant buy anything bigger than a 1.2"...

That sounds like the way most of these threads go, I'd be surprised if he takes the advice on board tbh as all he seemed to want was validation that the car wasnt overpriced

no lol. I'm only 25, this was my brother's account and which is now mine.

thanks for advice. i'll skip the old 116i 1.6ltr unless its the new 116i 2.0ltr.
i'm looking for 118 or 120 range now.

"Only 25"?

Just how "expensive" is the insurance on a decent 1-series? Heck, at 25, insurance on an M3 would have only been £800~.

Might as well just get the 130i.

1 series hatch not my cup of tea.... but I dont see much wrong with the 116. Its a detuned 2litre engine. Never gonna set the world on fire, but each to their own. I bet its adequate for most jobs, and can get moving if you thrash it. :D

Oh, and i'd rather get the 07 car than the 04 every time.

Even if the 07 is a 116i, and the 54 plate is a 130i?

I'd rather have the 130i, for less cash, every time.

Yeah, even then (especially if the 130 has been to the moon and back at that price)

My view on this, is that if you cant get something fairly newish <3yrs & <30k mls then i'd rather buy something else, or extend my budget.

Yup. I'd take the 30k car over the 60-80k any day. By the time you've done with it after another 3-4 yrs it will have done 100k+ and be practically worthless. No thanks.

Proportionately it will likely lose the same or less value than the 30k example.

I paid £6000 less than low mileage for my high mileage car. Today, it is worth only £2000 less than the low mileage example would be worth now and I have spent £109 replacing parts directly attributable to the cars higher mileage.

Since when is a 5 year old car "extremely old"? Rather have a car a few years old and a better spec AND cheaper instead of the one you posted in OP.

I guess I should get the hell away from my car, what with it being nearly 7 years old, with 145,000 on the clock, it is probably going to explode in my face and kill me any day now.

What I should have done was spend many thousands more, that way I won't die in a fireball, and I'd have got two nice rectangles of polycarbonate with newer inscriptions on them! I'm such a fool. :(

Most german built engines do moon mileage if treated right, thats not even half a cars economical lifetime 100k.
I'm a vag whore, I purposely look for high milers because you save a ton of dosh, most people don't realise that times have changed and that cars go on for much longer.
And more often than not, low milers have been shagging round town in stop start driving, motorway miles are far less stressful on the engine.

What you save on buying the car, you will save on depreciation anyway.

Given that you paid 6k less in the first place kinda proves my point doesnt it?
