HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

Does anyone have a guide to unroot a G2 Touch?

Love the phone, but the signal quality on T-Mobiles not what they promised it would be here, so I'm going to return it under the 7 day return policy, and get one on Vodafone or Orange instead, so it would probably be best to return it to its factory state!

Do I just need to download an official, unrooted rom and flash it with that instead? Cheers.

The HTC mail app does not sync tasks with exchange. I believe there is an app on the market called moxier which does sync tasks - its quite expensive though!

Cool, seems like a decent app!

I don't suppose you know of one that does the same thing, but syncs from Outlook on a local PC?

Also - does anyone know of a remote control app (RDP) for Android?

I currently use Pocket Controller Pro for my WiMo Phone.

So it's basically like this: http://www.gmote.org/ but the other way around!

thanks!

Is the G2 Touch the same phone as the HTC Hero, (ie. can I flash the G2 with ROMs for the Hero?)

Is the problem you are having with the network or the phone itself? I want to get the G2 over the hero as the internet plan is much better than Orange/Voda.
T-Mobile gives you 3GB while Orange/Voda only 500mb

Anyone on Orange with a Hero having trouble with calls not coming through? I've had several occasions where I've had signal and yet answer phone messages are popping up despite the phone not ringing...

Yes, this isn't just orange related though.

The problem tends to be when a data connection is in use.

When on a 2G network you are only able to use data or make a phone call not both (when on a call try browsing the web and it won't let you).

When on a 3G network you should be able to browse and receive calls at the same time, however people have reported this isn't always the case.

My issue is that I don't get a 3G signal very often, so I limit my data usage (I no longer have my exchange email set to "as items arrive"). Apparently the 2G issue is network and phone dependant, some networks with a combination of different phone models will always disconnect data in order for a call to come through, some will just send the call straight to voicemail.

I realised this a couple weeks ago and also to be disbelief my voice mail hadn't been working, so loads of people were getting "we were unable to connect your call" eek!

I'm on o2, but I believe quite a few users have reported this to orange.

Blimey, i just tested this and your right! I have a 2g connection about 90% of the time as i live in the country side. I dont find it that bad looking on the internet over 2g and use it all the time, no wonder i get so many missed calls (im a plumber, so this makes it even worse!) I suppose having twidroid and emails and facebook updating every 5 minutes is blocking calls too?!

What about text messages, do they get delayed as i once had 3 turn up all at once about 2 hours after they where sent!

Is this likely to stay the way it is? is their a fix?

That could explain a couple of times, but I usually keep my 2g/3g stuff turned off until I need it :s

Changing the frequency of updates certainly makes this less of a problem, but still doesn't resolve the fundamental issue. Not sure about texts, I quite often get texts through late or after rebooting my phone.

Well I am under the impression that its most likely a device/software issue (although I could be wrong). It seems that the phone needs to have the ability to disconnect data when there is an incoming call. As I said previously this has to be in combination with the operators network configuration. I would imagine most networks should be setup to disconnect data in order to receive a call.

You would think these type of phones should be designed with the following in mind "Phone first, everything else after".

Wow, well that's a pretty major issue lol... it's like going back to 56K!

Is it an Android issue, or Hero specific?

Just tried it on my iPhone (3GS, 3G disabled). Same deal as the Hero. Not sure if this is true on the Hero, but on the iPhone it's only a problem while a data transfer is in progress (i.e. if you're just looking at a web page, the call gets through). Never knew about this - wonder if my old WM phone does it too.

Fortunately it's so rare I get calls I can live with it, but it might account for an odd time I've been travelling and expecting a call (that's when I'm most likely to use data).

i realy want to upgrade my rom to rhe latest one, but after bricking my omnia last time, i dont feel il get it right.

I believe installing roms on android is much easier. I never did on my Windows mobile for fear of bricking it. However the Hero was a piece of cake!
