I am currently running an 8600GT. Over the past month I've been replacing various noisy components and now the noisiest part of my PC is the video card cooler.

Can anyone please recommend a good replacement the priority being it should be as quiet as possible. Performance is secondary as I am not a big gamer

well the quietest card will be passive (no fan literally silent)

they can be had very cheap if you not interested in games, so what is your budget?

up to about £80 but could go higher if there are significant benefits.. (running windows 7 so it will need to be compatible)

As far as I can see, this card is the best performing passively cool card around, it will set you back around £115. This kind of power is not really required if you don't plan on much gaming.

This card will be perfectly adequate and run perfectly with windows 7 and some light gaming.

My Vapor-X card is very quiet without the use of the fan speed controllers (set to auto), might be worth looking into other similar cards? :)

It's still not going to be as quiet as a passive one though is it :p

Besides which a 4890 is complete overkill for the op.

How about a 4850 1GB for £80 with an Accelero Rev 2 on?

I had one of both of my 4850s and ran them passive for a few months, worked great for me, they can just look/be a bit messy when you've got two of them.

You'll be able to pick the Accelero up for about £12.

Definitely worth the extra in my opinion.

Of course not, just thought I'd point out it was quieter than most of the parts in my machine and mine is pretty quiet, and of course the 4890 isn't the only card with the Vapor-X cooling is it? :p

I wonder if the OP's motherboard has onboard graphics...
