Download or CD or Vinyl?

That's a rubbish 'excuse' not to buy CDs. I assume you're downloading and not paying for all the mp3s you acquire [correct me if I'm wrong]. To say you don't mind the difference in quality/artwork is one thing, but saying you don't have the space is daft. I live in a small studio flat and I own hundreds of CDs which are all kept in boxes and stacked vertically. The floor space they take up is about six square feet.

Oh, bite me. I live in a 3 bed semi with a wife and two daughters. I don't have the space. How the hell can you presume to know how much space I have? The cds I do own are in the loft. I buy my music on itunes these days and have bought - quick check - 459 tracks on there so far. The only things I download by more illicit means are mashups which aren't obtainable by any other means.

Cds if its band/album I know I like/would like, download if its just an odd song or a band I'm interested in but not too fussed.

My collections consist of stuff that's generally unwatched or not listened to directly if that makes any sense. I always rip it because individual files are so much easier to deal with on a PC. They're then just left on a shelf.

I do kind of empathise (but I'm not condoning) illegal downloading where there are NO legal means to gain a song. This is particularly true for white labels or rare remixes etc. Online CD shops allowing international delivery for cheap has helped for e.g. those albums released only in a particular country but sometimes certain tunes I've heard can be impossible to find.

As I indicated earlier, this is particularly true for the mash-up scene. I'd love to be able to legally acquire The Grey Album, The Beastles or American Edit, but it just can't be done, so torrents it is. The only other choice would be to buy every track used in producing those albums, which is not overly feasible and rather misses the point in my opinion.

I'm going on 20 and finding myself appreciating CDs a lot more than simply downloading music. It's a lot more personal, i bought Abbey Road (remastered) and its just world class. Booklet, photos, the artwork.

I havn't bought a vinyl yet but HMV have a big selection and a lot of modern artists are actually using vinyl.
