Are you going buy one ATI new 5 series or wait to see what Nvidia releases ??

ill get a 5870 when they hit £220 or a 295 for the same price... im sure both will drop in the coming month... which ever is 1st tbh

I dont see the point in getting a DX10 card now, especially if you are going to spend £200+.

How long do you think it will be before the prices of the 4xx series Ati will start to drop after the 5xxx series release.

They won't let that happen - the whole point of dropping all the prices at the moment (4890's currently start at £120 or so) is to clear the old stuff out.

When the 5xx0 series cards launch, you won't get any discounts on the old ones - indeed if the GTX280 is anything to go by, the prices went up for new ones when the GTX285 came out.

If you want a new 4xx0 series card for CrossFireX or whatever, just get one now, you won't save much by waiting, and you risk not getting one at all, or having to buy a used one.

Money should be worth it though since it destroys the 295GTX.

By how much? Please tell us - since you obviously have access to data that we don't.

Even if it does 'destroy' a year-old card, it'll just be 'destroyed' by the new NVidia card when that comes out. Competition is good, but just because you're a bit bored and feel like indulging in a bit of idle speculation, please don't post trash.

I will be getting one... or maybe two... NO! one 5850..... actually a 5870 or two hmmmmm... :D

I havn't bought a graphics card in ageeees think I deserve a new one for a being a good boy.

Rough estimates at the minute seem to put the 5850 at gtx285 performance with the 5870 nearer to if not beating the 295 but all this is based on unconfirmed rumour\benchies and right now has to be taken with a pinch of salt till reputable reviews have been done.

And how many times more expensive (overpriced) do you think the nVidia card will be? Twice the cost of the 5870? Three times?

Why would ATi put the 4890 EOL? there will be a place for it at the moment, the 5850 (in my opinion) will be aimed at the 285 and the 5870 the 295. The 4890 still needs to be there to aim against the 275/260, unless the 5850 (I doubt) is launched at £120

depends, although il probably wait as im buying the rest of my hardware in jan. when are we looking at getting the nvidia cards again? surely by then.

so what evers best at the time :)

nVidia's road map seems somewhat obscure... there was supposed to be the 40nm rehash of the 200 series around about now and then the GT300... but GT300 doesn't look like it will be out until March 2010 or so... and the 212, etc. seem a bit pointless if they don't support DX11... even tho the hardware specs are quite a nice bump.

I don't think 4xxx card will budge untill the 57xx/56xx have been out for a month or so as the 58xx seem to be targeting a higher price bracket than their current cards. e.g. 4890 @ £125-£150 and the 5850 being £200+

Anybody think the Nvidia cards will be a lot faster or more equal?

If they came out with a 480sp 40nm refresh of the 200 series are rumoured - then adding in the likely clock speed increase it would probably edge it over the 5870 - but whos going to buy a card thats probably 50% more expensive and gimped feature wise? unless they can magically tape it out with DX11 support as I said before they appear to have over reached themselves with the 200 series refreshes...
