xbox 360 controller on pc?

just wondering can you plug the 360 controller straight into your pc.. if so how does it fair and do you require special drivers etc?

The wired one plugs straight in and will work without drivers in windows vista/7. In windows xp you need to download the drivers from the microsoft website.

Annoyingly you need a wired one otherwise you have to buy an adapter.

that cool, i presumed i would have to use a wired one, which i have anyway. It will be in xp so ill find the drivers and see how it fairs

I just purchased myself a wireless receiver and I'm sorted. Windows auto installed all the drivers etc and most games auto configure the controller.

What I meant was you need the actual wired controller, not the controller plus the USB lead.

Im looking to use one of my wireless xbox controls on my pc and i was wondering will it work the same as a wired one if i use a charge cable on it, plug and play like ?

Afaik you can only buy it bundled with a wireless controller these days:

They can be picked up for around £20. For that sort of money, you may as well buy a new wired controller.
