My mate just bought a MAC

Infact, the new iMac isn't white so it's showing your ignorance to the computer right there. :)

Not ignorance, harsh me thinks. Perhaps an aesthetical gap in my mac knowledge. All i know is that he spent 15mins in John Lewis in Reading and the sales chap fleeced the crap out of him.

ERm, i thought people might appreciate the fact that paying £1400 for a mac to play wow was over the top. I was not slagging a mac off. For £1400 i would want a good graphcs card. Not a poop one.

dirty fanboys the lot of you. Oh and a £500 pc wont be junk. be serious. It would be probs as powerful actually just without the fancy mac software, which at the end of the day, combined with the pretty image, is what you pay for on top of the basic pc component price.

Dude your entire op screams PC fanboy :)

Agreed -BA-, it's like arguing black is white but without realising both colours have their merits and uses.

Incidentally, I bought my MBP as I love the daily simplicity of OSX and the hardware spec was up there enough to play all the games I wanted in Boot Camp Vista. The fact that it's well built and easy on the eye are just secondary bonuses, bit pricier as a result but I have no qualms with paying for quality.

apparenly you also pay a bit extra for the LCD screens, the basic materials used to build the thing and the fact that they have little competition in comparison software wise. I dont know if this is true. Its just what ive been told by a mac user.

Fanboys because they disagree with you? If your mate could afford to buy a mac with his own money, then more power to him. Did you actually think that maybe he didn't WANT a PC in the first place? With the amount of PC's I 'repair' that have software issues thanks to the wonders of IE6 half the time I wish I could tell people to just get a mac to avoid me being called out all the time.

Must admit my posts are tongue in cheek for the most part and based on dated knowledge of when my sister did indeed by a Blueberry iMac to match her kettle (must have been a hideous kettle!) and some of the newer Macs are aesthetically far more pleasing but hardware specs are what interest me and game/software support.

The new macs look proper snazzy and are extremely easy to set up. Just getting the thing on the internet took like 20seconds. Its simply brilliant i dont deny that. The interface is FAR superior to windows in any form and the screens and effects are damned pretty.

However, i could get the same powered PC for £500.

ALL im saying is that he wanted a Pc to play wow on and paid £1400 for a mac. A damned stupid thing to do. Who cares if its his money, from my position as a friend who told hm how much a pc would cost to do the EXACT thing he was looking to do, seeing him pay that much for it makes me sick.

pretty though, very pretty. the big girl.

LOL, what's next 360 or PS3?

I've used Windows since 3.0 right up to 7, it does the job but can be a hassle to get everything working together sometimes. I'm pretty sure you'll reply to that statement with "well it's always worked fine for me" but hey. OS X compliments the selected hardware, and works. Plain and simple. Vista also works brilliantly on the MBP allowing me to run any game I played on my gaming PC with no probs.

Rather than lipping off your mate's new purchase, how about taking advantage of your friendship and sitting down in front of his Mac to see what all the fuss is about before trolling forums trying to stir up a fanboy riot.

edit - ah, I see you've stepped down a bit.

im not actually aware of stepping up. Or 'trolling' as you put it. Sitting beneath a bridge and waiting for some goats to walk accross has never been my thing im afraid. Please god read my posts and get to grips with why i was annoyed. He bought a mac to play wow on. He had no preference beforehand but came away £1400 worse off where he could have spent £500. Thats my only point.

*huggles macbook pro*

Yeah anyway, surly shouldnt you be trying to rip on your friend playing world of warcraft than sounding jealous of his mac.... :p

That is exactly how i feel and i say that most of the time when i fix peoples computers...

But just think what would happen if microsoft made a good operating system...so many people would be out of a job, having a terrible OS creates jobs for more people. I think companies pay microsoft to make a poor operating system personally.

I would agree that Macs have their uses...but the price difference is never worthwhile. Paying 2-3 times as much money for the joy of a pretty case and simple OS isn't worth it. In regards to video editing..meh.. Final Cut is okay but not actually that much better than the alternatives.

That said, I think you have a point in regards to telling non-technical people to buy a Mac and avoid a lot of the hassle/learning curve in regards to maintaining a PC...
