Did anyone else watch this last night?

I was pretty shocked to be honest at the state of these so called professionals, now I don't imagine it's easy by any stretch of the imagination, but I mean they were all pretty bad, compared to some of the amatuers that have been on in the past they were not great.

Will be interesting to see the other contestants.

Yeah, I did laugh at the guy who ball'sed his main dish up and basically chucked it all in an omlette with a mixed dressing

Also, where is Jon Trode?

Yeah I was surprised but the tasks were much harder. The guy who went through did pretty well though with the sea bream. Looking forward to tonight's show, it's much better with Michel Roux, although I'd still prefer it if they replaced Greg Wallace with someone else.

watched it and a couple of those chefs were shocking.... pretty cringe worthy that they were head chefs...

i like this format, gotta show some skillz before the main event..

I like the format but like mentioned before the so called chefs were shockingly bad, head chef of what? McDonalds?

you didnt honestly believe these so called pros are really all that much better than an average person did you?

some mums can cook better cakes!

The entry criteria to this version of Masterchef merely requires you to be working in a professional kitchen, something that the amateur version strictly forbids*. The standard of the kitchen and reputation of the restaurant aren't important, but if you're working in a Michelin-starred establishment or flipping burgers in McDonalds I doubt you'd get a call back from Shine.

As with any 'reality TV' they'll pick a mixture of people likely to win and people who will merely make for good television. No doubt those who show potential in the pre-televised heats can and do go to pot under the studio conditions but all the competent ones should be used to working in such an environment. Hell, they ought to be relishing the space, relative quietness and access to high-end catering equipment.

*Although it doesn't stop you from having trained and/ord worked as a chef or having worked closely with food in a previous job - otherwise most of the previous winners wouldn't have been eligible to enter.

Well I think it's fair to say last night was better than the previous night. I think any of the 3 contestants at the end were better than the guys from the previous round!

yeah the standard was much better, the skills test seems to be abit hit and miss, as whether the chefs have done that task before.

only 1 of the chefs had turned an artichoke before, but one of the chefs did the right thing and said i've never done it before, and he got respect for that rather than just mutilating it..

Agreed, I was dissapointed that Robert (the chef who managed to get the Fusion dish just right) mucked up so badly in the 'classic' dish test, he showed massive promise (and genuinely impressed both judges) in the first section, yet failed on the (relatively) simple tasks - he forgot to core the pear for example.

Really made me want to do the egg in the raviolli!! That looked so tasty and bet it would be a bitch to do in mass for a restaurant and get them all just right!

Will be watching tonight for sure, I get addicted...

Yeah it's a shame he has to go out and the guy from the previous round went through, he looked a real talent.

The show needs to bring John Tarode back. Roux Jr is a knob in my book. Obviously knows his gourmet grub inside out though. And its abit annoying that someone gets the boot in the skills test and the other 3 "get the priveledge to cook for michelle roux Jr".

I can't get over how much that food critic looks like peter griffin... :/
I hate those critics... so pretentious

Is it annoying anyone else how Michel Roux Jnr. is nodding like the Churchill dog every time someone is speaking to him? :D
