My mate just bought a MAC

I really dislike fanboys of any type, apple[insert product] users tend to in my experience have the worst of them with non sequitur statements, topped with no understanding of what they are saying compared to comparable products on the market.

Not saying they are all bad but people need to learn to take a step back, arguing it has a better OS/intuitive OS is actually wrong, it's subjective to the user and for me that case is backed by the fact I've never used a MAC OS and the day I did it was very counter intuitive.

Still didn't mean it could have been a good OS, so I don't bash either, just the stupid users.

It's probably only counter-intuitive because you're so conditioned in using Windows.

If Apple took computer gaming at all seriously, they could have owned the market by now.

I've never bought a mac because gaming is one of my primary uses - simple as.

I own a macbook pro for use as my laptop and its the best laptop I have ever used - lovely screen, amazing battery life, awesome trackpad...

However, I wouldn't buy a mac as a main computer (desktop) for gaming since almost all games use windows and you can buy a much better specced pc for a much lower price.

No they wouldn't they are under cut on price by microsoft, and have much less presence in business so no matter how much they supported games they wouldn't dominate the market.

some of these arguments are ridiculous. Seriously go and tell any serious video editor or photo shopper that mac's arn't worth it. See the response then.

To any normal person I think they are still pretty awesome, they look neat as hell. Hardly ever crash and have some really useful programs on them. They are quality in a box, with stylish design. They are not made to appeal to the masses and some people just appreciate their quirkyness. The same way I'd happily pay £2000 for a perfectly restored golf gti mark 1, while I could get something brand new that would do a better job for half that.

You're right. Just thought, if Apple were to release a Mac made specifically for gaming with a console style launch line up, all Microsoft would have to do is release an Xbox PC that ran Windows as well as Xbox games.

Why would they do that when the PC versions of Xbox games are usually superior?

No all Microsoft would have to do is point to the vast library of pc games and say good luck, and pat apple on the head.

He shouldn't be chastised for his purchased any more than someone who goes out and buys a £30k car to drive to work.

;)

He must be a bit of a tit taking that attitude to major purchases though. He didn't particularly want the Mac when he set off but he let some spotty oik in the shop talk him into it.

Whether or not the Mac is as good as the gushing fanbois profess, that has got to be daft.

I am a serious photoshopper. Macs aren't worth it :)

But I agree, this thread has gone too far....as anyone who's been a member here for more than five seconds would have forseen :D Traditionally always a very heated debate. Never goes anywhere. Thread gets closed.

Why dont they support gaming? Is it so hard, or do they simply realise that games need mice with at least 2 buttons?

O yeah, there is this small obstacle called Direct X which could be a bit of a hurdle to cross...

IMO this thread isn't heated at all. It's a good discussion like most Mac/PC debates on this forum. It's no handbags at dawn with the whole PC Vs. Consoles, Xbox Vs. PS3 etc...

I used to get one phone call a month from my Dad with issues with his Windows PC - viruses, router issues, alerts popping up that he was worried about. Bear in mind he knows nothing about PCs and should probably not be allowed one :).

Anyway, about 3 yrs ago I had use of an iBook laptop for 3 months through work. It was a very nice little machine for the time, easy to use and just did the job.

When my Dad came to refresh his desktop I recommended a Mac and he bought a 17" iMac - which at the time wasn't too overpriced. He's been happy with that ever since and the best thing is he's only had a problem with it once which turned out to be an ISP issue anyway. No more tech support phone calls!

I would definitely recommend them for the less technically literate as they tend to just work. I'll stick with my Win 7 PC for the games and the versatility - although wouldn't mind one of those shiny new MacBooks for work...

When I joined this Architectural practice they were entirely mac based and using vector works, It was without doubt the most frustrating period of time I have ever had with both IT and Architecture.

Over time, once I took over the IT sides of things as well as my normal role I set about removing them from the office, We are now, I am happy to say 100% PC based using Autocad. My boss to this day (10 years later) still drones on about how much he loved his mac despite the fact they were costing us thousands in lost time and slowing the whole design process up.

Every now and then we get a student works for us who uses them and to its credit Snow leopard is far better than the rubbish we were using os9 I think it was.
