Autodromo Nazionale Monza - Italian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 13/17

Could have had a thread of it's own, given that the event occurred during the 2008 season, then has come back into the spotlight in a big way during 2009...

I dont recognise that third "face" in that pic above?

(Ron, Michelin Man , ?, Flav - and it doesnt look like Symonds to me although I am drunk right now lol)

I'm struggling to believe that Renault engineered the race by getting Piquet to crash his car, which in turn brought out the safety car, which in turn allowed Alonso to take the lead of the GP, which in turn allowed him to finish the race as the winner. That is one heck of a chain of events.

I'm totally shocked.

That was probably the calculated best case scenario, I am sure they would have been happy with a podium starting from 15th, but it seems everything fell into place for them on the day (no pun intended ;))

Paul Stoddart.

aaahhh of course thanks ;)

Its mathmatical probability

The track in question has blind spots where Charlie Whiting would have to deploy a sc if a crash occurs - this isnt really under discussion I hope - just a fact of the track design.

Alonso was already fueled light (his style/choice does seem to prefer to start light anyway), the only thing really that Renault have to "luck into" as it where is that Alonso himself is in the right place on the track when the accident happens (and surely as he has just stopped, the team can engineer this within a couple of seconds)

Once you know this happens - you can pretty much gaurentee to work out with the strategists where he will be in the sc chain, so when the pit lane reopens Renault know Alonso effectively has 25 seconds + on everyone else (as he has already stopped)

They wouldnt know any other teams strategy (like every team does know this year) so one or two cars may be geared to go longer after sc period, but otherwise I think it was odds on bet that they could get Alonso on the top step given his ability and by that time genuine pace of the car last year.

(ps I know there was some sarcasm in your post - but other parts looked genuine lol)

For all anyone knows, Flav and Symonds left the team because the team would not contest the charges.

Renault fan? :D

I kid. It's an interesting point, certainly. Not sure that I think it'll be proven correct though. If Briatore wanted to contest the charges and Renault didn't, then Briatore would go to the WMSC hearing and go against Renault's wishes anyway.

That's not how things work in the corporate world - you do what the parent company says, if they say "we are pleading guilty" you tow the line, if they say "I think it would be best for the team if you take a bullet and resign, oh, and you too Symonds" you also do it.

New sponsor for Brawn at Singapore
The sidepods of the Brawn cars driven by Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello in Singapore next weekend will feature the branding of the printer firm Canon.
The deal with Canon Singapore announced by the British team on Thursday is for the city-state's night race only.

RE-Sponsors, I see Jenson has had the 'Monster' graphic on his helmet and cap for the past few races

I've not spotted it on Rubens stuff though.

I hope they change the colour of the wheelrims to match the sponsering as IMO the current ones are hideous.
