My mate just bought a MAC

I'm with him, I get annoyed when people ask for proof anytime anyone says something. Why someone should have to prove what they say to a randomer on the internet is beyond me.

It's an internet forum not a legal document, and as far as you know the man has no reason to lie.

Apart from trying to prove his point?

If you are going to make a claim, the least you should do is be willing to back it up.

Try and beat £730 for:

C2D 2.2ghz
4GB DDR3
250GB HD
9400 GPU
Backlit Keyboard

Meat my hybrid refurb Macbook :)
Top bit of kit given that I paid for a 2GB version and got a higher spec for free. Osx was so good to use that I'm already thinking of ditching the w7 pre-order and just sticking to trusty Vista x64.

Yer, some b****** hybrid thing that even Apple can't make their minds about. Essentially its a late 2008 Macbook but my receipt states pro lol

And if he's lying, then by definition he's not proving his point.

Is it feasible that he's lying? Yes. But I'd rather not assume it by default, nobody gains anything by lying.

As for the topic, personally I use Mac OS on a regular basis. I also use Windows 7 on a regular basis. In fact my main (Only) machine is a 2.8GHz 15" MacBook Pro, which is my gaming machine and also the best laptop I've ever bought. But OS wise, Mac OS can't replace Windows. Likewise, Windows cant replace Mac OS. :)

Can anyone agree that PC's are too overly complicated for their own good?

I perfectly well know how to use them and maintain them but for the average user they know diddly squat about anything and it's bascially a mission to use the damn thing.

Most people i talk to don't even know how to uninstall a program from control panel. Dunno what spyware, adware or malware is...

It's just a headache for an average user. These forums can't understand that as you're all enthusiasts, as am i.

You install and un-install on a Mac as well though so that part of the debate does not stand tall for Mac users.

Average users won't be looking at the finer details, they will walk into a store and buy a prebuilt machine which has support but will 90% of the time know someone who knows computers and can help them through problems.

One of the reasons I prefer PCs to be honest. Their flexibility is one key advantage they have over Macs.

My parents are pretty much average users and they get along fine with a vista PC. For the most part they just work, just like Macs.

Most apps have an uninstall option in the programs menu so you don't really need to go into Control Panel. How do you uninstall in a Mac? Spyware, adware, malware is mostly a matter of not falling for social engineering these days. Something that the Mac user base would be just as prone to.

Speaking of this whole "they just work" thing, when was the last time the mac users and windows/linux users had a crash? (talking full on Os dying not a program crashing)

Last time i can remember that is when a HDD decided it didn't want to live any more.

Mac - a couple of days after installing Leopard (bought on launch day) I got a kernel panic due to a bug fixed in 10.5.1. So that's a couple of years ago then.

Windows - this afternoon. BSOD due to botched McAfee update on my work ThinkPad.

Mac every time I used one of the stupid things back in the day at school.

Windows, about two weeks ago when I had the memory timings set wrong.

Mac: Never had anything I couldn't use the Activity Monitor to get out of. Over these Force Quit (think End Task) actually works.

PC: Had two crashes at work that needed full reboots to get out of.

Which OS?
The one like this http://macbitz.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/mac_mini.jpg dont know the name of the os. Every single one of them crashed frequesntly. I think its because they were switched off at the wall all the time.

And the older ones which were like all enclosed in the crt monitor with the handle on top and brightly coloured. these didnt really crash as much but were stupidly slow.
