Rarely pop in here but want to get some peoples experience of whether they've been through the same thing.

I'm a fairly moley person, haven't got loads, but enough, in the safe zone as you might say, normal for anyone to have between 20-40 on their body.

A few months ago my back was itching like made, kept scratching for a few days then decided to actually take a look in a mirror. Saw a new mole, around 1CM wide that i'm sure wasn't there before. It was flat and dark. As most of us do, I ignored it, lol.

A little while later saw something on TV about skin cancer, so I went and saw the doctor, got an immediate referral to a dermatologist. Went down, she looked at it for 5 minutes, then asked if I minded if her head of department took a look with about 5 students. They took a look, heard talk of multi-pigmented, irregular shape and so on. After that they booked me in to have it removed as it being dead center between my shoulder blades, it would be difficult to monitor changes.

Had it removed last week, but now have to wait 2 further weeks for the test results. I'm absolutely bricking it, I know it's probably nothing but it keeps going around my head what if it is 'something'. I'm paranoid now and sure that moles all over my body are changing.

Another thing on my mind is that about 3 years back I got seriously sunburned on my back while snorkelling in thailand. It was my 3rd day there and didn't realise just how burnt you could get while in the water. I was in pain for a few days after and most of the skin peeled from my upper back in around 4 days, then went back to normal.

I know a mole excision isn't major compared to some peoples problems, but has anyone been through the same, what happened, was it ok, was it not ok and what happened in either case.

Haven't been through it myself but a mate of mine had a cancerous mole on his back, he works outside and used to keep his top off all summer but doesn't anymore.

He had it removed and all is well. He was pretty tense about it at the time, naturally, but the main thing is not to ignore the itching and see the doc, which you have done.

Hi mate, first things first, Don't Panic.

My wife has a large amount of moles and has been through a similar scenario, it came back fine.
The main thing is "It has been removed!"

The best thing that i can advise in ref to the rest of your moles, like my wife does, is to have them checked over every couple of months. Through this regular process she has had 3 removed in total, some of them just grow and get a bit "CATCHY"

I am sure you will be fine, i will have my fingers crossed for you. Let me know how it goes :)

Yep been through something similar.

I went to Florida, got sun burnt really bad whilst at the water park, few months on got a mole where I had got sun burn. Went to the doctors got it removed and everything was ok.

Hope the results come back all okay.

And i know what you mean about getting burnt in the water. I was in spain for 2weeks and though nothing of it and got really badly burnt.

hmm, I also have a lot of moles, and only really had them checked out once properly, about 12-18 months now I think.

doc said everything was fine, although to keep a look out on a couple of them for changes. they are on my back and are pretty difficult to see, and i havent really been keeping track of them....this thread has now got me a bit worried...might need to book in app with doc again for check up!

I've had a mole turn itchy all of a sudden as well, 2 actually!

One was on my back, the other around the colar of a shirt area.

They were both getting irritated by clothes all of a sudden, and even with my shirt off they would still itch, due to me having scratched them open slightly and still being irritated!

I went to the doctor, they said no problems and took them both off!

Thanks for all the replies folks, but i'm still scared, lol!

Something I would like to point out, most people think if the mole sticks up, is bumpy, whatever then it's a danger, don't fall into this trap, it's the flat dark moles you need to get checked up on more than anything.

Have had 8 moles removed now, that they thought were suspicious. I've also had students/other professionals in the department examine them. They all came back as being ok, and I didnt need any further treatment. Im sure you will be fine, and if you do need more treatment then skin cancer is one of the easier cancers to treat.

Which is exactly the type of mole I had develop. But all is ok now.

I've had five removed of the years; two from my back, one from my torso and two from my right leg.

When I had my first one done I was a little worred, but now it's just something that happens occasionally; a mole grows, I have it removed and so far the results have always come back as fine.

I'm off to the doctors Monday to get one of mine checked as my mum (who's a staff nurse) saw it and says it's changed recently and that points to it potentially being cancerous.
