Heard about this today, has anyone ever done it? Sounds a right laugh to get a £200 banger and drive a few thousand miles in it with loads of others hoping it'll reach it's destination, then scrap it at the end (or drive it back if you're that confident!)

Wouldn't mind doing it one year with some friends maybe. Any recommendations on banger? bulletproof old volvo maybe? :D

Volvo 740/940 some friends have bought a couple of these to drive to a villa in the south of Spain, made it every time. One they scrapped as the exhaust fell off in Spain and the other made it all the way back. Both had 200k+ miles and cost peanuts.

Yeah thought as much, the old ones really are tanks and lots of room, and that's exactly what we'd want. Any mechanical minded person wanna come along from Manchester if we ever do it? haha, absolutely none of my friends are and I can only just about replace headlamps :)

Somebody has been watchinng scrapheap challenge :D (which is terrible in the new format :( )

could even do a clarkson, and see if any dealers have any sheds they want rid of (if that really works?)

This was a load of RUBBISH, he actually stated on the program so he didn't cheat he sent a female friend to buy the car, this was BS since you can clearly see his name on the invoice.

would quite like to do something like this :D, limos can be bought fairly cheaply and I imagine would be a good vehicle to do it in (nice and spacious)

Correct on both accounts! haha.

That rover limo looks ridiculous...I'd consider the idea of one if I thought it could get further than the end of my road without breaking down :D

Its not a new format its a spinn off series.. in that vaine its not that bad.

anything but a rover. mk1 golf?

Ahh that's good to know, but it is pretty rubbish to be honest.

I reckon the bulletproof Volvo option would be best :)

thinking about doing this, asked a couple of mates and they seem pretty enthusiastic!

doesnt anyone know if a car breaks down abroad can you just.. leave it there :P?

only if you can find someone to scrap it

It's funny, I saw a Volvo estate on the M25 yesterday with Crumball Rally stickers on it. Made me think of this thread!

no, you have to get it recovered or sell it to some-one.

I've done a couple of street safari events; home to rome & Staples 2 Naples both were great - well organized and good routes.

But beware - it ain't cheap! fuel, keeping the wreck running and beer/food/hotels all add up - at least a grand each for the rally without setting the car up or buying silly costumes...
